Good lord, their society is struggling enough without having to turn this into a referendum on which culture is 'better' or not. They're a first world country dealing with a horrific disaster. They have their own positives and negatives as a society, and they're no better or worse as people than anyone else. To take their reactions and issue the blanket statement that the west is overrated shows nothing about the situation, only an already ingrained bias on the part of the commenter.
Pretty cool. Since I can't go in a viking longboat, outdoor cremation is tempting. Of course I won't notice, so it's a touch vain. Really, just let the wild dogs carry off my carcass.
So if I hold coffee in my lap, knowing that it's very hot, and then try to remove the cap which is the only thing keeping the coffee from splashing me...it's McDonald's fault? If the lid malfunctioned or the cup split, I could see it.
Glad Wieor's around to tell us how a pure conservative thinks. And here I thought I was thinking for myself. Maybe when I parrot his viewpoint I'll be a real conservative.
Any material that's left behind in a hospital is considered abandoned. However, you can request to keep it and there are good arguments about why you should. Your genetic material, if abandoned, can potentially be used by the hospital or whoever they sell it for various purposes, be it finding cures or creating designer genetics.
And just speaking as someone who had a hysterectomy (at a relatively young age), it isn't as easy as losing something like an appendix or tonsils. If this doctor did this only as a "friendly gesture" and not as part of standard labeling procedure, it's easy to take that as a slap in the face, as if the uterus was the only valuable part of you. Even if that wasn't the case, surgery is hardly a fun and friendly event. If the doctor had removed, say, my leg or a boob, and then brought it back in to show me with my name stamped on it, I'd be creeped out at best.
Not all of us carry the same politics and will find some articles neat. Others won't. Big deal. There's no need to sling accusations of hatred or thinly veiled attacks through advertisers. Unless, of course, you wanted to shut Alex up, which seems to be your intent.
At the El Paso TX high school where I teach, it's expected that a lot of the students will go to the restaurants and places nearby to eat. They have an hour to do so. As for the rest of us who eat cafeteria food, including much of the staff, some of the dishes are bland, including the burgers which are cardboard, but there are plenty of vegetable choices, fruit choices, entree choices, etc. And there's the snack bar which serves fruit, icees, ice cream and other treats. While it isn't fine dining, I definitely believe the food selections differ from school to school. We just have a bonus in living on the border, which nets us some great cheese enchiladas and breakfast burritos.
I've got a coworker who eats much more smartly than I do, works out frequently, and is in better shape than I am. She's also at least a hundred pounds heavier than I am. It isn't a matter of self-control. It isn't just not eating, which can actually exacerbate weight gain, and telling someone with valid medical reasons that it's their fault only serves to make the thinner person feel superior. They're thin so of course they have better discipline, nevermind the addictions and behaviors they give into.
If it works with just one application, I wonder how much labor and resources it saves with lack of time wasted on discipline, referrals, phone calls home, suspensions, detentions and extra assignments.
