The Other Sarah Palin

Abram Sauer of Esquire talked to Sarah Palin the other day. No, not that Sarah Palin - the other one. Does sharing a name with the inimitable former Governor of Alaska and presumably US presidential hopeful in 2012 bring a certain amount of pain? You betcha!

The name is not a common one, but there are a handful of Sarah Palins in the United States. About 12 are Facebook members. The database on Classmates.com lists 30 — including the one who graduated Wasilla's Burchell High School in 1982. But per capita, the coincidence appears far more common in England, where a handful of the dozens of Sarah Palins I contacted were also far more willing to talk about it.

"If I had a pound for every time I have heard someone crack a joke about my name, I would be the proud owner of a Bugatti Veyron," says one Palin from Brighton. "My name is actually not the same as hers either — I am a Sara, not a Sarah."

Other Palins recounted, perhaps thanks to the former Alaska governor's own predilection for Facebook, receiving friend requests from Mama Grizzly groupies, including positive messages of thanks for inspiring them to beat cancer. But of course there is hate mail: "you should never have been born," "you bitch," and "you've insulted every single black American," for starters.

"In everyday life in England it's fine, the odd comment — everyone thinks they're the first," says a Sarah Palin from outside of Manchester. "But on Facebook it's just a right pain in the rear end."

Of Course ordinary citizens are more real than the politician Sarah Palin.

Looks like lulu is more interested in arguing than understanding.

Dragging other politicians into this is just a silly error of logic.

Glad Wieor's around to tell us how a pure conservative thinks. And here I thought I was thinking for myself. Maybe when I parrot his viewpoint I'll be a real conservative.

I have met her personally and have had relatives meet her as well when they worked in Alaska.

Not all of life happens on Fox news. Move out of your parent's basement.

Typical. Can't make a positive point about your person. Can only drag other people into the conversation. Yet somehow your side also attacks the moral relativism that you are using at the time. William F. Buckley and Henry Kissinger (both of whom I have also met) would be ashamed of you.

Watch a few episodes of Firing Line and get an education about what being conservative really means. It is not enough to just question authority, you have to speak with it as well.

I really do wish websited like this would stop leaning oh so far to the left all the time. Your readership is not all liberals. Give the slant a break and throw in some welcome NEUTRALITY, keep things pleasant for EVERYONE who stops by.

Or else feed the goose AND the gander.

Wieor, don't see how you can pass such a judgment on her. She seems a lot more real than many politicians who have been making DC their home for many years. Have you seen pelosi's cosmetic-surgeried face? Not very real. What about john kerry's wonderful war experiences in Vietnam? Very unreal. He got his medal and got the hell out, man. Kind of shameful, really.

Just because you don't like her politics, doesn't mean you can't ackowledge that she is an okay person. You are like the people (in the article) who write horrible things to people they think are THE Sarah Palin.

There's no reason to hate her or wish she'd never been born just because you disagree with her politics. That's so childish. She hasn't done anything to deserve all the hate. Get over it. She's just a politician.
