The 50 Best Foods in Every Major American City

Whether you eat out all the time or your only go out on special occassions, life is too short for bad food. That's why we're loving this great Thrillist list that features most of the major cities in the US, each with their own link to the 50 best things to eat in that city. I can't vouch for all of their recommendations, but the ones listed for San Diego are pretty dead on. So Neatorama readers, how do their recommendations line up with your favorite places in your city?

We're In Love With This Mustachioed Kitty Who Witnessed A Murder

Kyle is just your every day adorable, grumpy-looking mustchioed kitty with a few minor distinctions -for example, he witnessed a domestic violence murder and was even held in evidence by the police before being handed over to the local animal shelter.

Of course, like many other famous internet kitties, he has a few health issues that seem to make him even more adorable -he has only three teeth, a permanently crooked ear that is dirty all the time and causes his foot to get dirty from scratching it. He also has absurdly scraggly whiskers that seem to go in all directions all at once.

And did I mention he looks fantastic in a hat?

Shark Tea Bags

(Photo: Makuake)

Lurking beneath the surface of the tea in your cup is a deadly predator. It's steeping in the water, waiting for the right moment to leap out and devour the label.

Tokyo Weekender reports that the Daisho Fisery Company in Japan has designed these novel tea bags. The Great White Shark is filled with a rosehip and hibiscus tea that gives the water a blood red tint. The comparatively harmless whale shark is filled with green tea. Choose appropriately.

This College Building Looks Like a Toilet

(Photo: News.Cn)

Choose your major wisely because you don't want to just flush your money away. The new building for the North China University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power in Heinan, China is, appropriately, shaped like a massive toilet. The Chinese central government is circulating photos of it to describe its recent move to ban "weird buildings."

Proper architecture, the government argues, does not try to imitate other objects, such as cell phones or human genitals. You can see photos of other weird Chinese buildings at Shanghaiist.

The Last Prince of Italy Runs a Food Truck in Los Angeles

(Photo: The Prince of Venice)

His Royal Highness Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, Prince of Venice, is the grandson of King Umberto II, the last King of Italy. That nation abolished its monarchy in 1946 and exiled the royal family. So Prince Emanuele has lived most of his life abroad.

Lately, he's been in Los Angeles. He learned that the food truck business was booming there and saw an investment opportunity. So he created an Italian cuisine food truck called The Prince of Venice, which is one of his formal titles, and painted it with the colors of the House of Savoy. The Telegraph reports:

“I came to Los Angeles six months ago for an event and I realized there were various Mexican and Asian food trucks around, “ the prince told Italian magazine, Chi, in an interview.

“I thought ‘why don’t I try it?’ With a food truck with fresh Italian pasta that is loved around the world.” […]

The would-be heir, who was born in Geneva and is married with two children, says his new business is flourishing and he’s relishing the role.

He has hired a chef, Mirko Paderno, and sells dishes like fettucine with shrimp and clams or linguine with truffles for as little as $15.

100 Years Of Men's Underwear In Under 3 Minutes

Men rarely spare much thought on their underwear, and some gross guys can't even be bothered to change their chonies on a regular basis.

So it's safe to assume most guys don't have a clue about how far their underwear has come over the last 100 years, or how fabulous those form fitting boxer briefs actually are.

Mode continues to show us how fashion has evolved one hundred years at a time by exploring the evolution of men's underwear, starting with the bulky long johns men wore circa 1916.

Comic Strips With Surprise Endings You Won't See Coming

Comic strips have a very short amount of time in which to tell a tale or deliver a setup and a punchline, so they're usually pretty straightforward in terms of pacing.

But good comic artists have lots of tricks in their pencil bags which they can pull out at any time in order to poke the reader in the eye, just to make sure they're still paying attention.

And when you've read as many predictable, formulaic and just plain boring comics as I have you learn to appreciate a surprise ending, whether it's happy, sad or WTF inducing.

The Most Canadian Superheroes Of All Time

(Image Link)

Wolverine may be the most well-known Canadian superhero of all time, but quite a few memorable characters have come from the Great White North including the team Alpha Flight and Deadpool.

(Image Link)

But more importantly Canada is the real world home of fictional characters who represent important firsts in the world of comic books, starting with Nelvana Of The Northern Lights.

She's Canada's first superhero and one of the first female superheroes to appear in the comics, predating Wonder Woman by a few months, and she's the first (and one of the only) Inuit superhero.

As someone who loved reading Canada's answer to The Avengers as a kid I must say superhero squads don't come much more colorful or charming than Alpha Flight.

They're one of the motliest crews who ever assembled to fight villainy, with a hairy hulk named Sasquatch, a dwarf acrobat named Puck and the first openly gay Marvel superhero Northstar, Alpha Flight kept Canada strange.

Micro Harassment

(Things in Squares)

She earned her sexy doctoral hood and gown, so, yes, she's a real scientist. And she won't take your snide remarks in the lab. Respect the science.

Documentary Series About Guys Who Like To Dress Up Like Dogs

Some people are no longer content with simply being strange humans, so they look for ways to take their strangeness to whole new levels and shed their human skin in favor of something stranger, like a dog suit.

For some this is a fetish, for others simply a way to deal with the fact that they feel uncomfortable in their own skin, and I imagine a few dress up like dogs just for the fun of it.

Secret Life Of The Human Pups recently aired on the UK's Channel 4, exposing viewers to this bizarre subculture with roughly 10,000 "secret pups" in the UK alone. It's a dog's life indeed!

The Pizza Sofa

(Photo: Domino's UK)

Domino's Pizza UK commissioned this sofa. The design is a bit cheesy but the crust is soft and comfortable. It was on display at the recent Isle of Wight music festival in June, but will end up in the home of a lucky contest winner. It would be ideal for an evening with friends, then for breakfast the next morning.

Emergency Crews Twice Called to "Homeless Jesus" Statue

(Photo: WDAY 6)

A month ago, the First Lutheran Church in Fargo, North Dakota erected a statue showing a homeless man wrapped inside a blanket and lying on a bench. It's a copy of Timothy P. Schmalz's statue called "Homeless Jesus," an emotionally powerful image inspired by the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats.

The statue has already inspired responses from passersby. The Fargo Fire Department has been summoned to the scene twice by people who thought that the statue was a real person in need. WDAY 6 reports:

Fargo police Sgt. Kevin Pallas said the Police department has responded to at least two calls, one on Sunday, July 3, and another the week before.

“It’s not a common call. It just shows we have concerned citizens who are willing to make the call,” he said. “That’s encouraging.”

The Rev. Laurie Neill said the church’s staff was expecting a few 911 calls about the statue based on similar calls in other cities where the statue has been installed.

Jimmy Fallon & Paul Rudd Perfectly Recreate Styx Music Video

Jimmy Fallon has never claimed to be a comedic genius, but there's one comedy arena in which his skills really shine- the funny song.

He's pretty good at playing guitar and really good at doing impressions of famous singers, so funny songs are naturally his forte.

And when he teams up with Paul Rudd, an actor who's good at acting like he plays guitar and equally good at acting like a person in a band, you've got the perfect ingredients for a funky Styx music video recreation.

The Fallon/Rudd version is so close to the original it's hard to decide which one's better...just kidding, Paul Rudd wins every time!

Prank: The Old Man at Muscle Beach

(Video Link)

Kenneth Leverich is a champion weightligter and CrossFit competitor. He's young and in fantastic physical condition.

He doesn't look young in this video, though. That's because makeup artists hired by Thrillist spent 4 hours transforming him into an octogenarian.

Then Leverich went to the famous Muscle Beach outdoor exercise area at Venice Beach, California. He stunned the younger men with his displays of strength.
