Behold the march of progress! Once, s'mores were but a dream in the soul of primitive man. Now, thanks to Jasmin Fine, you can find them inside and around whole strawberries.
Jasmin stuffed the hollowed out strawberries with graham cracker crumbs and rolled the outside in more graham cracker crumbs. Then she dipped the strawberries in chocolate, spooned marshmallow on them and toasted them over an open flame.
I've never had all three flavors together--or even heard of their combination--but I can see how they would work perfectly together. Winnie put a lot of work into this treat, but it will be worth it for anyone who gets to sit at her table.
Dale Irby recently retired after 40 years as a physical education teacher at Prestonwood Elementary in Dallas, Texas. Normally, this would only be news to those who knew the popular teacher. But Irby has the distinction of posing for his school portrait every one of those 40 years in the same clothing!
It began as an accident — a product of his sparse wardrobe back in the day.
“I was so embarrassed when I got the school pictures back that second year and realized I had worn the very same thing as the first year,” said Dale, 63.
But his wife, Cathy, dared him to do it a third year. Then Dale thought five would be funny. “After five pictures,” he said, “it was like: ‘Why stop?’”
After the first few years, Irby only pulled the 1970s shirt and vest out for picture day and put them back for the next year. You can see all forty pictures in a gallery and a video at the Dallas Morning News. Link -via Uproxx
The eight and final season of Dexter will premiere on FOX in the United Kingdom, and to commemorate that event, Miss Cakehead and Annabel de Vetten of Conjurer's Kitchen teamed up to create a life-sized Dexter Morgan out of cake ... then proceeded to cut and eat him up:
Inspired by the name of Dexter’s boat – A Slice of Life – the cake was 5ft 10” long, the same height as Michael C. Hall, the actor who has played Dexter for the past eight years. The entire cake took over 100 hours to make and weighed over 105 kilograms. 24 eggs, 25 kilograms of flour, 16 kilograms of buttercream, 18 kilograms of sugar, 20 kilograms of sugar paste and marzipan, and 15 kilograms of buttercream were used in the creation of the edible masterpiece. 20 blood oranges were also used, the cake flavour inspired by the iconic titles of the series.
A Dexter ‘kill room’ was created for the cutting of the cake, the kitchen walls covered in plastic sheeting. Replicating Dexter’s kill technique, the cake was initially cut by a knife being plunged into the chest area before being sliced up. The cake was also ‘dressed’ in clothes to give an authentic appearance, with hours spent on adding fine attention to detail such as stubble.
Here's an appropriate chess set to mark the bicentennial of the War of 1812 between the United States and the United Kingdom. Jim Arnold, a custom chess set maker in Ronda, North Carolina, crafted this set inspired by the August 19, 1812 battle between the USS Constitution and HMS Guerriere. That was one of the few American naval victories during the war and the battle in which America's revered "Old Ironsides" earned her sobriquet.
That's right -patriotic Canadians will not hoard food! If you do, the police won't come after you -at least not today. During World War I, you could be levied with a stiff fine or even prison time. This is one of 14 Wonderful Vintage Canadian Propaganda Posters posted at mental_floss, where they've kicked off a one-and-a-half day celebration of Canada Day with post after post on Canada. Link
As we mark the ten-year anniversary of the Tommy Wiseau movie The Room, how is lead actress Juliette Danielle coping with the fact that her first starring role was in a movie celebrated as the worst ever? Danielle was twenty years old when she got the part of Lisa, and had no idea how terrible the film was until she saw the premiere. For years, she avoided any part of it, even when the movie became a cult classic with monthly midnight showings -where people jeer at the screen.
At first, Juliette was stung by the press attention, particularly when it focused on her physical appearance. “On the Rifftrax"—that's the downloadable accompanying heckling track, led by former "Mystery Science Theater" host Mike Nelson—"they called me the ‘bloated corpse of Britney Spears,'" she said. “It’s funny when it’s somebody else but God, I was just in no way prepared for that.” A scene in which Juliette appears to have a bulging vein in her neck also received a great deal of attention, with fans yelling, “Kill it before it dies!” at the screen.
Eventually, Juliette set up a Facebook profile. There she wasn't heckled. Fans started posting photos on her wall of themselves dressed as Lisa; they told her how much joy the film brought them, how much fun they had at screenings; they quoted The Room to her and Juliette, to her surprise, found herself quoting it right back. She started watching cult movies like Troll 2 and Birdemic, and found that they gave her a renewed appreciation of The Room. She started attending Q&As after screenings. She started to entertain the notion of returning to acting.
“For a while I expected it to go away and I think that just would’ve made me a really unhappy person, waiting until I’m 75-years-old for this thing to go away,” Juliette said. “So I found that when I embraced it, it certainly made me a lot happier and more secure about the whole thing.”
Danielle has recently returned to acting, and is also trying out standup comedy. Read about Danielle's experience in making The Room and coming to grips with her notoriety at The Awl. Link -via Digg
Roozer Brewz is a miniature horse. But he was also, unfortunately, born with a dwarfism gene that leaves him only 19 inches tall. Roozer has some serious health problems, but with the aid of a custom wheeled support, he is able to walk. Here he is taking his first steps with it.
Beer and donuts! It's like a meal designed for Homer Simpson. Tieghan used a full bottle of beer for her marshmallow recipe and then placed the marshmallows between sliced graham cracker donuts. This magnificent sandwich is then finished with hot fudge, peanut butter and graham cracker crumbs.
Steotch's quaint cross stitch would bring a homey ambiance to any room. It shows Jules Winnfield's manged quote of Ezekiel 25:17 along with a pleasant floral pattern.

It looks imposing, but this tank is so poorly armored that it should break under your chopsticks. Brian Ashcraft of Kotaku tells us about this fishy tank:
As pointed out by Naver, a sushi restaurant called Kurisakiya began offering a tank sushi in honor of Japanese anime Girls und Panzer.
The military girls anime is set in the town of Oarai in Ibaraki Prefecture, which is where Kurisakiya is located. Thus, tank sushi!
Girls und Panzer features real Oarai locations, and that helps create local tourism: Anime fans often like visiting real-world locales featured in their favorite cartoons.

This might not be what the manufacturer recommends, but it's the way it's done in most households. Except I would tend to forget where the rest of the blades were put, and ended up using the first one for as long as possible. Now I just buy a bag of non-refillable disposables, and the rest of the bag disappears among the family. From Doghouse Diaries. Link
