Correct. In prison, you don't generally have access to objects like knitting needles or crocheting hooks unless they are plastic. You can order from art supply catalogs but you are restricted on what you can get. Note that crocheting with a plastic hook is way harder than with an aluminum one.

Crocheting is actually more popular...great way to pass the time, create something useful to mail home and it isn't quite as gay as knitting.

For all we know, he/she was just scratching his/her head...on the other hand schadenfreude is kinda ugly so laughing at something that is unhappy is kinda uncool...

I can see it from both sides...on the one hand, yeah 5 year olds wearing silly costumes is not a political statement relax...on the other hand, how do 5 year olds learn how to be hateful? Maybe by belittling people by wearing silly costumes? I dunno but I figure I can always wear a kilt and make fun of my own heritage...
