Mr. Jones's Comments

Ursula:

Thank you - you make some great points.

I would argue that it is the deconstrution of the "patriarchy" that is allowing this kind of nonsense. I don't think modern fathers have any clue whatsoever in defending their daughters' virtue.

And please understand me - I'm not living in 1880. I've been to college and yes, sex is happening left and right. But a man should never lay down and let his daughter be disrespected. If a boy ever disrespected my daughter in my presence, they are going to be cleaning him off that side of the building.

SydneyClaire:

You would think its "cute" that your daughter is relegated as a simple "day-of-the-month" sexual conquest?

College boys fantasize about having a different sexual partner for every day of the month. That's perfectly normal. But why the hell would we, as adults, encourage it? And why would we offer our daughters as props to this fantasy?

And I seriously wonder where this corporate money is going (I'm assuming this is a public college). I bet you anything this isn't lowering the tuition. The fathers who are allowing this are getting the pipe.

Mmmmkay. Old GenX alert. I'm old enough to have a daughter in college.

Firstly, any guy who uses all-body perfume has issues, okay? Guys don't need to smell like sweat. But at least you are being a man. Its bizarre that a straight man would spray perfume all over himself. There is nothing "macho" about this at all - its a bit ironic, actually.

And secondly, if my daughter was living in one of these dormrooms I would totally blow a gasket. How many men are out there paying good money to have their daughters objectified like this? What the hell is the matter with people?

The funny thing about being a nerd is that you find any excuse to feel insecure about yourself - and during those lucid moments of bravado you strike out but fail miserably. This provides another excuse to pull back into your shell.

Any young nerd who honestly wants to change things should consider:

1) You've spent most of your life inside your own head. The thing is, most people are not going to understand, much less appreciate it. The key of social interaction is be able to interact and appreciate the world outside your head.

2) This means that a girl will very likely not be interested in talking about computers, Dungeons and Dragons, and World of Warcraft. In fact, most of the things that interest HER may seem very alien to you. But if you are able to get her to talk about herself (her favorite subject), then you'll be on the right track.

3) Don't put yourself down. Repeat. Don't put yourself down. Nothing turns off a girl more than a guy who is insecure. A little self-effacing humor can be charming, but the key word here is LITTLE.

4) Grow some balls. A loser isn't a guy who plays a game and falls on his ass. A loser is someone who never even tries. But the important thing here is that you LEARN from your failures. Don't keep doing the same thing over and over (like trying to pick up women at a mall) if its not working out for you. Adapt. Improvise. For example, you will probably have much better luck at an under-21 club (if you're too young to go to a bar).

5) Girls really pay attention to how you dress (especially your shoes, for some reason). So don't be wearing that old T-shirt you've had since sophmore year in High School. If you know any guy-friend who dresses well then pick his brain. If not, then look at clothing catalogues (this year's) and see what is fashionable. If you wear glasses, then get some contacts. Trust me, this shit will get you far.

6) Get involved in activities outside the nerd circle. Again, a girl will not be interested in talking about World of Warcraft. But if you tell her stories about you kayaking or rock-climbing, that will definitely get her going.

I'm on a judge-y tear today, but this is pretty damned disturbing. You have to wonder, if someone is set upon doing harm to themself, what they are capable of doing to other people.

We all have illusions and barriers to the real world, and we relate to the real world in our own ways. But if this involves the infliction of pain to ourselves and/or others, there is something wrong.

This isn't "fringe", or "art", but simple mental illness.

Ball and chains work well for labor gangs because the inmates could still move around, but couldn't make a run for it.

Ball and chains only slow you down, they don't result in you being immobile. And if you look at the picture the ball looks to be about 10 pounds, max.

Obviously this is a gag gift - but pretty dumb even at that level.

Keep in mind that they are claiming that these figures are "averages", meaning that there are a wide range of figures ABOVE and below these numbers.

Seriously, I'm retarded when it comes to math, and I noticed this.

Neat-O - when you post stuff like this, it makes you look stupid, too.

These people need to bone up on their bible. God refers to himself as "I am who am" or "Yaweh"/"Jehova" depending on the translation.

"God" is pretty generic. Would one of us identify our name as being "human"?

Of course, its equally plausible that it isn't God, but a demon trying to trick them into looking stupid.

My favorites:

Chuck Norris doesn't sleep. He waits.

Chuck Norris never pays taxes. He simply sends a picture of himself to the IRS of him crouching in an attack stance.

I'm pretty I've read somewhere that an adult drew this coloring book. I think if they went with Koko the chimp, they would've ended up with a better product.

Yes, I'm joking. Perhaps my sarcasm and snarkiness flew under your radar.

Oddnumber:
Actually, the coloring books in my youth had some degree of artistic competence. You know, by people who can actually draw in realistic scale and perspective (for example, Batman and Robin were drawn to be smaller than the Batmobile). Just because you offer a product to children doesn't mean you ignore very, very basic artistic conventions.

Seriously, would you give this kind of crap to your child? If so, I mourn their Happy Meal existence.

Not to be nit-picky about the drawing:

1 - Is this supposed to be Manhattan? I didn't know it was one big, green hill with three office buildings and a single-family home. Of course, I've only been there once.

2 - The single family home: what the hell is going on? I think its supposed to be a tornado ripping off the roof. But why is the roof intact and flipped over? Why is the tornado so tiny? And are there tornados in Manhattan?

3 - Who buys a house that is incredibly small, and seems to comprise of two windows, one door, and a single, yellow room with a rug. Of course, if this is the only house in Manhattan then I guess beggers can't be choosers.

4 - A major city without roads. Okay. Unless one craggy, weed-choked dirt path going up the hill is the "road". No wonder New Yorkers are so grouchy.

5 - That car is colossal relative to the other objects in the picture. Must be one of those SUVs that liberals get so upset about. I guess the roll-over safety rating of this particular vehicle isn't very impressive. And the action lines emulating from the car is indicating to us that something is still happening, but what? Is the car angry?

6 - The vegetation in front of the beige office building - trees, bushes, or is it just green fire? I don't know.

7 - The twin towers are a lot smaller than I remember. Of course, they could be simply very far away from us. But then the airplane would be absolutely gigantic. I don't know.

And, seriously, an adult drew this picture.
