No matter where you stand on the topic of sexism in pop culture one thing is for certain- the female body is most often portrayed in an idealized form in visual media such as comic books and video games.

Sometimes this idealized form ties in well with the character, like when the character is an athlete in peak physical shape, but a lot of times they’re just drawn that way because creators think it will help them sell their product.

It’s not meant to be a slight against “average” women, and yet it’s hard to deny the impact these unrealistic body shapes have on young women.

Which is why treatment oriented website Bulimia.com created their own versions of female video game characters with what they describe as “average American body shapes”.

I agree with some of the makeovers but I don't think they put enough thought into the characters they chose for the project, because why would a Special Forces officer/pit fighter who trains constantly be overweight?

Presupposing angels are real, and not just mythical beings, I wonder what an angel would look like if it fell to earth?

Would it look like a human with wings, as they are most often depicted, or would it resemble something far more disturbing and alien? Whoa, what if angels are actually aliens?

California is currently being rocked by one of the worst droughts in the state’s history, and with the drought comes changes to the way we humans live while nature goes on doing what it does best- adapting.

As certain resources dry up others become more plentiful, like the increase in cute little kittens due to the fact that warmer days are ideal for feline breeding.

But the effects of the drought aren’t all warm and fuzzy, as the lack of water has forced rodents to invade homes more and they’re bringing rattlesnakes with them.

So if you live in California do yourself a favor and adopt a few of those new kittens and teach them to hunt all those snakes making their way onto your property…problem solved!

It used to be really hard to explain to people how visual effects software can reduce the signs of aging on an actor’s face, but nowadays we’re exposed to a lot more behind-the-scenes footage that shows how it’s all done.

And yet this video by visual effects artist Rousselos Aravantinos is still amazing to watch, even if you’ve seen similar stuff in the bonus features section of a DVD, because the subject seems to lose twenty or more years right before your eyes.

A man riding a bus in Winter Haven, Florida was distressed when the driver told him that it would cost an additional $2 to travel to his desired stop. He left the bus, then decided that it needed some physical persuasion in order to see his point of view.

He headbutted the bus.

The glass of the bus doors broke, but the blow also knocked the man unconscious. He rose again and fled the scene before police could arrive.

The officer/father found the girl run off the road, unable to extract her Cozy Coupe from the snowbank. She was disoriented and non-responsive. And once you see the sippy cup in her right hand, you understand why. She's awfully young to have this charge on her record, but she deserves it.

It's called Anty Gin, but it won't trigger an immune response. The Nordic Food Lab and Cambridge Distillery have developed a new flavor of gin that is infused with red wood ants (Formica rufa). Each bottle has the equivalent of 62 ants in it, which contain formic acid in their bodies. That affects the flavor of the gin:

Formic acid (the simplest organic carboxylic acid, with the chemical formula HCOOH) is a very reactive compound in alcohol, serving as an agent for producing various aromatic esters. Furthermore, many of their chemical pheromones are the same volatile molecules, which we perceive as aroma. Through distillation of these wood ants, we can explore the tasty universe of these naturally occurring molecules and reactions, capturing the flavours of this fascinating species.
