I appreciate everyone's concern and support. This issue of what should and shouldn't be on Neatorama have cropped up many times before. (I refer you to the arguments previously hashed over at Neatorama's Elephant Hanging post.)

I really didn't think this topic would offend anyone, but given the wide spectrum of readers that visit the blog, I'm not surprised. I think that the material presented (as well as the images, which are mostly historic illustrations anyway) aren't terribly shocking.

The aim of Neatorama is to give its readers interesting things to read. This means different things to different people. What is safe for some is boring for others, so I opt for a little derring-do every now and then, if only to keep the blog interesting. I'm sure that this will not be the last controversial post on Neatorama.

For all you loyal readers, my continued thanks for visiting the blog!

Obviously the sign warns pilots to properly anchor their planes onto cars. Don't want to have them lil' planes flopping 'round when the big wind comes.

You guys are fun! Thanks for making my day.

Quote from the website:

"Boston Marathon... check.

I'm pretty sure that by the time I finished, the Kenyans were already back in Africa celebrating.

I'd also like to congratulate the 122-year old guy who passed me around mile 13. I have no idea if he finished but as he passed me -- he took with him any and all self-resecpt that I may have had."

Priceless!

Thank you for the suggestion of Major Oak - that's definitely one amazing tree! The agathis isn't bad either... Please keep the suggestions coming!

Joshua Powell - sorry, I don't use RSS much so I don't know how it works for you. Your complaint is actually the first I've received for long articles (there had been many on Neatorama).

Sri Lanka - Bo tree is a species of banyan.

Teacher - thank you. I'm a bad spelor and even am worsening a grammarian. :) If you point out the mistakes, I'll be happy to edit the post.

I disagree with Nicholas - there are many other websites that are aesthetically beautiful but much less practical than Sreelakhsmi's. Her design is clean and very functional.

Luxembourg is 999 sq. mi., so it's a giant compared to these tiny countries. Liechtenstein is 62 sq. mi., so it would have been #6 on this list (I only listed the Top 5). Andora is 181 sq. mi. - it's also small, but not as small.

Bermuda is not a country - it's a territory of the UK. Plus, it's not a single island, but a collection of 138 islands comprising of 27.7 sq. mi.

Had Sealand been recognized as a real country, it would have been the smallest (at 550 550 m²!). But alas, it's only an old sea fort in the UK.

Ditto Sovereign Military Order of Malta, it's not a "true" sovereign, i.e. it has no territory.

Bassas da India, in addition to not being a country, is just a tiny island. It's uninhabited, to boot. Plus at 80 km², it wouldn't have made it anyway. :)

For an interesting argument about the existence of God and the role of God in the life of everyday scientists, I recommend The Language of God.

It is written by Francis Collins, one of the most famous and influential geneticists on the planet today. Here's a story about it on the Sunday Times.
