Well, that's one way to un-macho all that wrrior posturing associated with machines of death and oppression.

Any takers for a Rock Hudson rocket launcher..?

What have we become?
The USA is all too willing to kill other people (mainly, it seems, brown skinned people living atop the USA's oil), has branded it's service personnel as 'warriors' and 'warfighters' (peacekeeper beiong far too faggoty) and now seeks to unleash a new arms race of remote controlled killing machines.
I truly weep for what we have become, and for what we could have been.
Bring on the mass extinction of humanity, I'm sickened by us...

Stands tro reason that this would work.

When the city of Auckland suffered a major and embarassing power outage back in the Nineties, trafficlights were down across the CBD and surrounding area for some weeks - most drivers behaved courteously and patiently at the now-uncontrolled intersections, and traffic seemed to flow more smoothly than it did when under the tyranny of electrical control; of course, there was less traffic in the CBD due to the power outage as well.

No reason it shouldn't work, especially in Germany, where the citizens have more respect for the law and - to quote the cliche - are highly efficient...

And that's another reason to avoid returning to the UK.
While there might be some merit to previous comments that the Man is looking for dope growers - if you've ever lived in Harringey, you'd know this one's a no-brainer...), one has to wonder if this is really a pertinent use of technology.
And rather than "shaming' the excess energy users into compliance, where are the initiatives to provide subsidised or low cost insulation to those properties identifed..?
Silly me, the Market is supposed to take care of that...

Having been to the link and read through the story, I find the issue disturbing but applaud Neatorama for bringing this into the open.

And to all the previous posters who've got their panties in a bunch over the 'religion of peace' and Islam, let us please be perfectly clear that the article does not point the finger at any particular religion - so no points there to prop up your prejudice du jour.

If you were all a little more worldly, you'd realise that the story comes from South India, which is largely Hindu, but also home to followers of Jainism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islam.

Repression of women under Hinduism is widespread in India, especially the more rural or poverty stricken parts.

The tendency to see violence done to human beings with brown skin and immediately blame followers of Islam speaks volumes about the prejudices of the willfully ignorant.

"man-eating wild panda"

Shurely shome mishtake..?

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panda

"Diet -- Despite its taxonomic classification as a carnivore, the panda has a diet that is primarily herbivorous, which consists almost exclusively of bamboo. However, pandas still have the digestive system of a carnivore and do not have the ability to digest cellulose efficiently..."

Re: The Great War.

In the early days of the 1939 - 45 war, it was known as the Second Great War.
I have a series of vintage publications which refer to it as this.

Hey Another Jake, how about we protest Freedom of Stupidity instead?
Because frankly, some of us are getting a little tired of hearing about differing cults arguing over who has the best imaginary friend...

That's jumping that is.

It's also connected to that whole 'if frogs had wings, they wouldn't bump their ass when they jump...' thing...

Flying?
My arse...

I must stand up for Richard Pearse, a New Zealander who achieved powered flight nine months before the Wright Brothers.
There is a good article about him at Wikipedia ((http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Pearse)).
It's a shame he's not more recognised as his thinking about aeroplane engineering and design was years ahead of his contemporaries (ailerons instead of wing-warping, forward mounted 'tractor' propeller, monoplane design with rear mounted stabiliser and elevator, the list goes on)
The only thing Pearse seems to have lacked is the showman's ability to sell himself...
