For the last 10 years, I take part of the military guard of honour at a local Memorial near where I serve in the South of the Netherlands. Lots of French and Moroccans that were part of the Allied force that liberated that part of my country lie there. It is such a great honour to do this for the ever thinning line of Veterans that is represented there. And each year we are ever so humbled by the fact that these Veterans come to thank US that we young soldiers Salute their fallen Brothers... That feels like the world upside down, because we stand there only because they gave their lives and blood and sanity for our freedom.
Seeing these pictures on this particular sunday morning brings me a different kind of spiritual sentiment. My prayers this morning go out to all those men and women who took part of that moment in history.
I can relate to this- If I get pictured, I always succeed in getting caught with my mouth half open on the way to some snack or beerbottle... At least that's how I always explain it....
I'm not capable of doing that, but this asks for answers in the Youtube-community where sitcoms like The Bold and The Beautiful, Dallas / Dinasty, the Simpsons or That 70's Show and so on show uncanny resemblances to Magnum-P.I. and Star-Wars P.I. ;-)
Before you know it, you'll see a testperson that is pulled apart and that lives scattered thoughout the whole lab- Heart here, brain in another corner connected to the WWWeb and some robotic arms and hands next to the original arms and legs. Lungs, kidneys and stomach redundant but just for the sake of science kept working in the next corner. And then some drooling scientists caring and nurturing all over all those parts... Welcome tot the 21st Century in all its Glorious Future! :-(
I can remember a time when we were told that in the Year Two-Thousand, we effectively would live in a Jetson-style world. But as this magical Year came near, we only got the upcoming Doom of the Y2K-Bug that would Rrrrip through our electronized world and destroy us all. Our military even was put on High Alert and rather short after that we got 9/11. And in the meantime we got Bush-Jr, Osama, Balkenende, Berlusconi and a climate-disaster that still is getting worse and worse. And by now, the US-car-industry has gone Bust with countless joblosses, a larger than life housing-crisis and a foodproblem mainly because of obesity prevalences of at least 20% in the US. So we're also changing into the humans as portrayed in WALL-e and we're by now well on our way to make our planet uninhabitable with most animals on it labelled "Extinct".
Yesss- Take those Space Age Pills and Be Happy, 'cause This Is That Future...! :-)
Very interesting to see these R2D2's evolve into the real thing as technology gets better and better. And then one fine day somewhere in the future, someone will proudly present a reallife R2D2 that has as much intelligence and capacities as the movie-character. That'll truly be a Wow-Moment.
Well Jae, all the better for you. It is an obsevation of mine that in certain urban environments, you can be more succesful at showing your abilities and aspirations by outward appearance than nything else- The examples of that are countless, with extremes found in the Harajuku phenomenon in Japan, or the label madness found in some European circles (if yo don't wear the correct labels, you're a failure an you don't belong to the group.) I know from my younger relatives who are still in school, that they can have stiff problems with their peers if they don't wear the correct clothing -outward appearance-. I myself can forget about any bright carreer if I only would mark by abilities and aspirations- I also have to look the part to get the promotion. So it goes more than one way. And at that I think the business-suits in a way are not any better than these Goth's. :-)
@BG and Santi- Are you sure we talk about Barcelona...? I was there some time ago for about a week for my job, had my hotel in a small street close to the Ramblas so had to walk there daily. Went a few times to the harbour. The only exiting thing that happened to me once was some guys offering me beer and ASKING me for stuff like how to get to the Cathedral and if I had drugs for them... And I only speak about 2.5 words Spanish. No truly- I nearly fell in love with that city- So friendly and open and colourful. I found it one of the more relaxed cities that I know in Europe. Okay- so that could have been the effect of those traces of drugs in the air... And that also could account for those incredible wonderful buildings by guys like Gaudi and alike they have there. :-D
