I hate old spice, especially with the over-use by pre-teen and teenage males. But I can't deny that some of the commercials are pretty great. (But some are really terrible, too)
Eh, read about this when I was at my parents' place in madison this weekend. Gonna go out on a limb and assume that this isn't going to help Madison's many stereotypes. But it is an interesting idea.
This seems much more practical than the dude who made a diving suit for his cat. I mean, the cat might have been tolerant and vaguely interested in what was underwater, but at least dogs are natural swimmers.
Man. That's actually a really good idea, especially for kids who are really into geography (like I was). If only it weren't so expensive...I mean I'd even be willing to spend more than a nice globe for one, but $450 is pretty steep.
If I'm engaging in conversation with someone who has an education above a 5th grade level, I can be far more insulting when I'm forced not to use the traditional "swear" words.
Huh. I wonder if it would punish me for "douchecanoe".
I think it's adorable. I'd never eat it, but it's weirdly cute.
As someone who's worked in all aspects of the meat industry besides packing, organic grass-fed cows live better lives than most people. Even sheep and lambs live pretty freaking lush lives for the most part. Non-grass fed cows live some bizarre and mediocre lives, but for the most part they're treated alright and are fairly healthy. Their meat isn't exactly good for you though, and they'd die because of their diet if they weren't slaughtered at the age they are.
The US is starting to adopt EU standards for hog farming (i.e. only X pigs per square yard, MUST have mental stimulation toys accessible, grated floors can absolutely not be able to allow hooves of any size through, must be hosed down every day), and pigs grow up to 50% less/week if they're stressed, so even if for purely monetary reasons, it's in everyone's best interest to treat them well.
Veal calves are still treated crap. Chickens are treated the worst of all. Turkeys aren't much better from what I hear, but I've never actually been to a turkey farm so I don't know what normal conditions for them are like.
Long story short: PETA is full of crap. Small family farms generally treat their meat animals the best. Generally. Humans are made to eat other animals as a minor but important part of our diet. I don't eat meat except for once or twice every other month. Americans eat way too much meat for the most part.
One of my parents' good friends is a key conservationist at the International Crane Foundation, who's worked for years on both breeding of Whooping Cranes and conserving of their migratory habitat. She's also worked to create nature preserves in the former USSR countries, and got Russia and China to work together to preserve land on the migratory path of four endangered cranes, and in the same meeting, they agreed to create guarded wildlife preserves for the Siberian Tiger and Siberian Leopard.
Seven years ago, the International Crane Foundation was able to successfully use ultralight aircraft to guide Whooping Cranes bred at the Foundation to their winter habitat in Florida.
If anyone goes on vacation to the Wisconsin Dells, you should consider visiting the ICF. They have done as much as Nat Geo (if not more) for the conservation of cranes, but I am still really glad to see Nat Geo featuring the beginning of the recovery of Whooping Cranes.
Erock- That's pretty cool...my 5th grade teacher had a hobby farm and would do that when his smaller animals died (chicken, goat, ducks etc). Everyone wanted to have him as a teacher because his classroom was filled with skeletons and taxidermied animals.
chris mathers- That's freaking awesome. Willard sounds like he's part wolverine.
My cat has helped me so, so much in the past 6 months. Fall semester I was having a horrible difficult time adjusting to life off campus and trying to control awful depression. Over winter break, my bf and I decided to bring up one of his mom's cats, since I'd been wanting a cat since we moved to our apartment. His goofiness when he has his dawn/twilight crazies combined with the fact that he is more than willing to sit on your lap and get pet whenever you want him to...it was very cathartic. My GPA increased 2 full grade points (yeah you can imagine how low it was last fall) and I would attribute at least half of that to having Zarky here.
Even if it is a wiener dog...

as for the rest of them...birds and frogs! Not surprising. Though I would hate to be a marmoset female giving birth to those twins x_x

And that snake is still cute.

anyway, this is no worse than what we do to poodles:

If they're doing this instead of trying to cut the willies off of every creature out there to put in their latest virility soup, works for me.
