I'm not sure why, but numbers stations have always terrified me. UVB-76 especially...that one led two a sleepless night or two. I don't know what my real fear of them is in general, but I think my fear of UVB-76 was its involvement in the Dead Hand system.

Not quite as creepy as his Moo! video, but definitely still pretty awesome. And weird.

Hah, WI just recently had a "re-declaration" of our state soil- Antigo Silt Loam...not that anyone actually paid attention it (besides the farmers that pushed the ceremony). Our soil probably causes more cancer than that rock ever has, just by the nature of being, well, dirt. Dirt gets weird things in it, retains the weird things, causes cancer 30 years later.
I have a polished serpentine rock in my bedroom...I'm suddenly tempted to go lick it.

My cat chirps at birds, but is really bad at it. My last cat was way better.
I had a really hard time getting past the OMFG CUTE photo to get to the actual story.

This man is insane.
I'm almost positive that people are right about him being elected because his name was first on the ballot and the other candidate, while well established, didn't have massive coverage.
So people went to the polls, figured "I don't know either of these people but I'm already here, so...." and votes for the first name they see.

Huh, completely missed that part, cousin steve. I thought it was squid, too.
Nice that the Spanish fans pledged to "protect" him, though...not that there's much more protecting that needs to be done.

Too bad he was hatched in 2008...it's very rare for Common Octopuses to live longer than 2 years. Their intelligence, especially compared to their cephalopod cousins, really fascinates me.

We did this piece back in high school, with a not-so-great orchestra. It sounded bizarre.

The writeup about this charmer on dreamindemon.com is great. What a tool.

There's already a place like that in Japan for both sexes, and more minor places like that around the world where you can pay to break porcelain plates or glass jars...it's quite fun!

wow. king of the hill is over and the rest of his series failed so...he's back to this. Gross. It's boring and un-witty and a waste of space on the airwaves.
I mean, what with the shows on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon these days, it's not exactly *worse* than any of that drivel, but it's still not worth even giving it another chance to die slowly while people watch the real humor available these days.

I'd buy one if I had money.
Someone needs to develop immortality technology to keep this woman around forever. She keeps changing. She's fascinating and amazing.

It's known to be a manual station (basically a microphone held up to whatever the hell makes that terrifying noise) that's constantly manned, so even though they probably have backup generators and everything, if all the operations of the station take place in one area it's possible that there was a catastrophic malfunction or a massive human error. Or maybe the people staffing it hated the sound as much as any normal person would >_>
