Gingerbread Lincoln

1

Photo: Baked Ideas

What is more quintessentially American than a 3-foot-tall Abraham Lincoln Gingerbread Statue? It's completely edible and made with rice krispie treats, chocolate, fondant, royal icing, cookies, and peppermint sticks. This was completed by Patti Paige of Baked Ideas.

Located at Le Parker Meridien in NYC, it's a good thing the statue is some 2,800 miles away from the Neatorama offices. While I would feel very guilty about eating the 16th President's bow tie, eat it I would.

There are a lot of people who don't like cake pops for one reason or another, but even those people might still like these tasty planet pops that are actually frosted peanut butter balls on a stick. Of course, when they look this awesome, taste isn't everything anyway.

Making Great Latkes

Chanukah is next week, which gives you just enough time to perfect your latkes (unless they are already perfect, in which case a little practice still doesn't hurt). In a post titled The Complete, No-Nonsense, Slightly Neurotic Guide to Making Great Latkes, Max Falkowitz of Serious Eats gives you more than just a recipe; he explains the tricks behind making real latkes that aren't potato pancakes or hash browns, plus warnings about the many things that could go wrong and how to avoid them. Lego Ramen

Behold, a tribute to ramen tendered in LEGO bricks! This was created by Lego enthusiasts at the University of Tokyo.

The display was part of the school’s 63rd Komaba Festival which hosts more than 100,000 people and is one of Tokyo’s largest festivals. The exhibition piece was inspired by Ramen Jiro, a tokyo-based ramen shop that is renown throughout the country and has even made The Guardian’s 50 Best Things to Eat in the World.

Guess How Underarm Cheese Is Made

cheese

Help yourself. Eat as much as you like. Christina Agapakis can make more cheese for you. She uses bacteria from the human body to produce cheese starter cultures:

Swabs from hands, feet, noses, and armpits were inoculated into fresh, pasteurized, organic whole milk and incubated overnight at 37° Celsius. The milk curds were then strained and pressed, yielding unique smelling fresh cheeses.

Seconds, anyone?
