It's hard to imagine a bikini being seen as controversial today, but the bikini was once the most scandalous swimsuit to hit the beach, that is, until they started making those movies with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon.

But in the less than 100 years since the bikini made its revealing debut it has gone from a no-no on many beaches to standard gear on just about every beach in the world.

And it's all thanks to bikini pioneers like Nancy Sinatra, who posed in a sexy white bikini with them big ol' boots she uses for walkin'and caused controversy with the bikini photo on the cover of her album Sugar.

But well before Nancy let her midriff breathe Hollywood mega-star Rita Hayworth stepped out of the pool for this shot from 1946 that had everybody offering to be her own personal lifeguard.

And last but certainly not least here's Halle Berry in that sharp orange bikini she wore in Die Another Day in 2002, which comes complete with dagger scabbard in case a Beach Blanket Rumble breaks out.

Before there was online dating there was a horrible train wreck called video dating, where single men and women sat in front of a video camera and recorded a brief statement to entice potential partners.

These videos were then shown to singles who could pick and choose who they wanted to date based on visual impression, allowing them to find their match made in heaven among those video dating stars.

However, people weren't used to being in front of a camera all the time like they are today, so many of these video dating profiles were painfully awkward to watch.

But what are we to think when some guy named Dan Hopper live tweets his co-worker's epic quitting meltdown even though that co-worker claims none of it ever actually happened?

Artists are constantly reimagining pop culture characters in Asian (mostly Japanese) art styles, but there's a great big world full of other styles out there which are constantly being overlooked.

That's why these Mayan art inspired versions of Super Smash Bros. 4 characters by Tucson-based artist Sita Nava are a breath of fresh air, standing out in a sea of ninjas and samurai.

The characters, and their powers, are still easy to identify in the Mayan glyph style, and Sita's inclusion of traditional Mayan fashion and symbols complete each character's Mesoamerican transformation.
