OK, maybe they could go back to a minimum wage of $5.85 an hour like the rest of the country, and LOTS of people will be poor! Would that be better?
The idea of a "living wage" that SF instituted was for exactly this... to give working people enough money so they wouldn't need government help. Yes, housing prices all over California are insane, but if people refused to pay that much, they'd come down.
Strayface, tax credits or deductions don't mean anything to poor people. If your income is low enough you don't pay income tax. Minimum wage is really low income, unless you have two or three wage earners in a family. Certain types of credits help, like the EITC, but not most.
I think it’s a good idea to share with the less fortunate. But restaurant food? That stuff is expensive! I can't believe so many of y'all throw leftovers away instead of taking them home!
Those dates usually signify the peak of quality more than safety, and they are "sell by" dates most of the time. After purchase, it's up to you to store it properly. I'll use food after the stamped date if it is still sealed or kept cold enough in the refrigerator or freezer, but I give it a good sniff test. The last time I had salmonella, it was because the refrigerator was malfunctioning.
Sort of. You can get a drink in a restaurant, but no liquor stores. The rum raisin flavor ice cream was not easy to find! I found oatmeal cookie flavor, moose tracks, bubble gum flavor, and finally a tiny and expensive cup of rum raisin that no one here will finish!
Nobody "makes" you happy. People are pretty much going to be as happy as they want to be, whatever their circumstances (with the exception of some extremely sad situations).

I went to college -and graduated- for about what a new car cost -at that time!
