Fun Facts Only Huge Disney Nerds Know About

How much do you know about Disney World? Unless you're a mega fan, chances are you don't know all the trivia bits on this fascinating Travel and Leisure article. Even if you know all about the secret tunnels, the basket ball court, the suite in Cinderella's castle and Club 33, you will probably be surprised by at least a few of the facts. For example, I had no idea that the presidential seal in the Hall of Presidents was such a big deal:

It took an act of (the real) Congress to install the Presidential Seal in the carpeting inside the rotunda of Disney’s Hall of Presidents” attraction. There are only three such presidential seals in the world: one in the Oval Office, one in Philadelphia next to the Liberty Bell, and one in the “Hall of Presidents.”

I admit I also didn't know that Disney World has only closed down three times in history, but you'll have to read the article to find out why it closed those three days.

Hilariously Hideous Men's Fashion Ads From The 1970s

(Image Link)

There is one word which is often used to describe 70s fashion, home decor, and the overall visual aesthetic of the era- hideous.

Visually there was lots to love about that era too, but it remained hidden behind the brown and orange interior paint schemes, polyester leisure suits and all that god awful macrame.

(Image Link)

But if you want to see the impact those hideous styles and color palettes had on society then check out the men's fashion ads found in magazines, where even the models don't know how to react to that gruesome garb.

(Image Link)

Fashion ads tried to sell the 70s fashion dream to dumb guys who didn't know better than to wear a belted sweater, and those who survived the decade swore to burn those clothes and never look back.

Woman Gives Birth While Enduring Her Boyfriend's Punny Sense Of Humor

Women understandably have little patience for joking around while giving birth, but Tanya Ferguson's goofball of a boyfriend wasn't going to stop being punny just because Tanya was about to have a baby.

In fact, her boyfriend James Riley sees childbirth as the perfect time to test out his new extra punny material on poor Tanya, who keeps on smiling even though you know she's dreaming about strangling James.

(YouTube Link)

Cracking a few punny jokes to ease the tension in the birthing room would have been fine, but James' comedic pun-ishment went on for five full days...I guess that's why his kid is already filing for emancipation!

Debunking 5 Election Fraud Myths

Thanks to a certain presidential candidate claiming that the election is "rigged," voter confidence in the election process is at an all time low. But the reality is that election fraud is actually incredibly rare, which is why anyone doubting the system should check out this Daily Dot article debunking four of the most common election fraud myths. For example:

While Trump is correct that there are 1.8 million dead people are registered as voters, he leaves out one critical fact: None of them actually voted.

So no matter how you plan on voting tomorrow, remember that your vote does count -and imaginary voter fraud isn't going to change it.

Tooth Trouble

Parents present the concept of the Tooth Fairy to kids as a fun way to celebrate the loss of their baby teeth while adding another magical being to the pantheon of childhood gods.

But if you think about it the Tooth Fairy is the most horrifying of these imaginary beings, a fairy who gave up life among the other fairy folk to collect teeth from human kids- while they're sleeping.

And, as this strip from Electric Bunny Comics shows, the logistics of how Tooth Fairies collect the teeth can keep a kid up at night...

New Developments In The Disappearance Of Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart has captured the imagination of generations since her disappearance in 1937, but as much as her disappearance has added to her mystique it also left her tragic tale without resolution.

So why haven't investigators been able to find her body?

Because they probably already did back in 1940, when a skeleton discovered on Gardner Island (now called Nikumaroro) was dismissed as male by a doctor and eliminated from evidence.

(Image Link)

But when The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) re-examined the skeletal evidence in 1998 they determined the bones found on that island in the South Pacific most likely came from a tall caucasian female.

Forensic anthropologist Richard Jantz recently took it a step further by comparing the skeleton's unusually long forearms to Earhart's own radius-to-humerus ratio:

In the British doctor’s notes, the humerus was reported to be 32.4 centimeters long. The radius was 24.5 centimeters – a ratio of 0.756 to the length of the humerus. Statistically, women born in the late 19th century (Earhart was born in 1897) had an average radius to humerus ratio of 0.73.

In other words, if the castaway was a middle-aged, ethnically European woman, she had forearms considerably longer than average. Dr. Jantz wondered if Amelia may have had similarly longer than average forearms. To answer that question we called on forensic imaging specialist Jeff Glickman. Selecting an historical photo of Amelia where her bare arms were clearly visible, and working with Dr. Jantz to identify the correct points on the shoulder, elbow and wrist for comparing bone length, Jeff found that Earhart’s humerus to radius ratio was 0.76 – virtually identical to the castaway’s.

We'll probably never know for sure if the bones belong to Amelia Earhart, but maybe it's time to simply accept these findings and put this mystery to rest once and for all.

The Best Fictional Holidays of All Time

We're in that one time of year that's just loaded with holidays -Halloween, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year's (just to name a few), but summers are a totally holiday drag. I don't know about you guys, but we wish holidays were more equally spread out throughout the year because we all need something to celebrate sometimes. That's why we support adding more holidays to the calendar and rather than taking the time and effort to make a new holidays, it's easier to just make fictional ones from television and movies into real holidays. This Zimbio article offers a good selection of fictional celebrations, so I say we start pulling a few dates from this list and make the rest of the year more festive already.

Get a Hug From Your Favorite Animal All Day Long

We love animals here at Neatorama, but the sad fact is that aside from the basic dogs and cats, you can't hug most critters. Thanks to Etsy seller MaryLouBangkok you can get the next best thing -a hug from your favorite animal on your finger through an adorable little ring.

Even if you get to hug your dog or cat for real, you won't get to squeeze them every hour of every day -and these rings give you that chance. The bottom line is: we just can't handle the cute.

Nobody Wants To Buy This Creepy House In Connecticut

Home is where the heart is and sometimes it can be a battleground, but pretty much everyone agrees having a home is better than being out on the streets.

And yet some houses seem to be totally unsellable due to their terrible location, poor condition or dark history.

But realtors aren't struggling to find a buyer for this house in Avon, Connecticut because of any of those reasons- they can't find a buyer because the house looks so creepy inside.

The walls look like they've been painted with blood, there is way too much copper in every room, and the decorative elements throughout the house are so jarring visitors (and potential buyers) can't wait to leave.

Maybe if buyers find out the house, priced at around $330k, is actually a contemporary art project by Fermata Arts Foundation founder Nikolay Synkov they'll stop being so revolted by the interior?

Nah, the only hope for this house of horrors is a complete interior overhaul!

A Brief History Of Goth

The Goth subculture has a suitably shadowy history, and like many of the post-punk scenes of the late 1970s there are disagreements about where it started and who started it.

Some say Goth started with Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxsie and the Banshees, others say she was just part of the scene that actually stole their look from Dr. Frank-N-Furter in Rocky Horror Picture Show.

This animated short by Pitchfork goes with Siouxsie as the first Goth, which I can't hate because Siouxsie is great!

I was totally on board with those kids presentation until they got to the "Kanye is Goth" part. *shakes fist* Kids these days!

Woman Wins $43 Million Jackpot At Casino, Receives A Steak Dinner Instead

Slot machines seem like small change but they can pay out big, and the bigger the casino the bigger the jackpot, but have you ever heard of anyone winning $43 million on a slot machine?

According to this Las Vegas Sun article the top slot machine pay out in Vegas was $39 million at The Excalibur back in 2003, so player Katrina Bookman rightfully believed she set a new record with her $43 million jackpot.

But the Resorts World Casino in New York told her she'd won nothing more than the $2.25 she put in the machine:

The apparent jackpot hit was in late August at Resorts World Casino in New York.It was casino chaos in this video shot by Katrina's partner after she reported her huge winnings. She was surrounded by customers and casino personnel and security. Escorted off the casino floor, she was told to come back tomorrow for the decision.Katrina remembers her next day visit to the casino, "I said what did I win? (casino rep said) You didn't win nothing." Katrina says the only winning the casino offered was a steak dinner. keep in mind the max payout on the machine was $6500.

(YouTube Link)

Seems to me they should have paid her the max payout at least, since it's their responsibility to keep their machines in working order, but offering her nothing but a steak dinner? That's just plain rotten!

Don't Sit With Dan

Do you have a buddy named Dan? I have a few, and one Dan in particular is the type of guy you'd never want to get caught sitting with at school.

You can't really put your finger on why it's bad to sit with Dan, but doing so would have placed the stigma of Dan upon you which, as this Pie Comic by John McNamee shows, would have been a rookie mistake.

Now that we're all grown up it's fine to sit with Dan, unless he's been drinking all day...

Some Of The Strangest Creatures From Japanese Mythology

Japanese folklore is the root of their pop culture creativity, and most of the mythological creatures known collectively as Yokai are so perfectly bizarre they could only come from Japan.

According to the old stories one of these creatures could show up at any of our houses if we don't follow certain rules.

And if a Yokai creature does show up at your house you'd better do what it says or suffer the consequences, which may leave you looking for a new place to live.

Injured Motorcyclist Records Heartfelt Goodbye Videos To Family After Crash

You know how they say your life flashes before your eyes when you're in mortal danger?

Well, if you're one of the lucky ones who survives the life flashing phase you may start to wonder how much time you have left on Earth- and what remains unsaid between you and your loved ones.

On October 15th motorcyclist Kevin Diepenbrock and his co-worker Phillip Polito slipped and crashed on the famously deadly Dragon's Tail in Deals Gap, North Carolina.

Polito died in the crash, and Kevin suffered serious injuries that included "two punctured lungs, 17 breaks in 12 ribs and multiple spine fractures", injuries that made him think his days might be numbered.

So Kevin pulled out his smartphone and started recording a raw and heartfelt video of what he thought were his final goodbyes.

(YouTube Link)

Kevin survived and was rescued 30 hours later, and now he's a lucky man on the mend with a tragic tale to tell and the video footage to prove it.

Guillermo Del Toro Presents : The Captured Bird

Guillermo del Toro has presented us with amazing tales that run the gamut from dark horror to fairy tale fantasy, but gothic horror is one of del Toro's personal favorite genres.

Which is probably one of the reasons why he backed and produced Jovanka Vuckovic's spooky short film The Captured Bird, that and the story seems like something Guillermo would have written.

(YouTube Link)

Released in 2012, The Captured Bird was Jovanka's first time writing and directing a film, and since this debut she has gone on to become "one of the most influential women in horror."
