When I was teaching high school biology I had made up a program of study for the non-college bounds students utilizing the nice outdoor area we had by the school. We went outdoors for various activities, even in mid-winter. One such activity was based on survival, Jack London style. I had them team up and gave them one match to build a fire. The college bound kids were not happy that they didn't get to do such "cool" things.
When I was a kid, we were always playing outside, climbing trees, and running barefoot on river rock down by the river. It's sad a lot of today's kids spend way too much time in the house playing video games or perusing their electronic devices.
Funky Freya is correct. Since there was no year 0, the first century was from year 1 to year 100 and the second century would start in the year 101. The 20th century would have begun in 1901 and all those folks who celebrated the new millennium in 2000 were a year early
Reminds me of that line from "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home": "Don't leave him in the hands of 20th century medicine!" What modern devices and treatments will be disdained by doctors in future centuries?
Great! I LOVE asparagus. And sweet potatoes, and Brussels sprouts, and spinach (my classmates thought I was weird - I have loved spinach since I was small!), and broccoli. Other faves I am glad to see on this list include mushrooms and tomatoes.
The people who made sure she was that old are rather pissed off here in France...
