What continues to gall me is the relentless beer advertising you see now (but it is OK because we say "please drink responsibly" at the end of the ad!). What really pushed me over the edge was when Anheuser Bush threatened to pull advertising if the NFL did not do something about the rampant domestic abuse in the papers all of the time with NFL players. Just go ask any police officer you know just how many empty Budweiser cans they usually see when they go to a domestic abuse call. The hypocrisy is just stunning.
The stores that sold TV's put them in a window so passersby could see them. I remember the first one on our street and they put theirs in a front window. My great grandfather of all people was the first one in my family to get one so he could watch baseball games.
Being a record collector, I remember the soundtrack LP from "Skidoo", but the drawing on the cover looks like it would have starred Jackie Gleason. I think most of the songs were sung by Harry (Everybody's Talkin') Nilsson with the liner notes written by Gary Owens (Laugh-in).
I never did see the movie so reading Eddie's article was very fascinating... especially the "Batman" relation... but I remember hearing people commenting that the movie sucked. I'm kinda curious now about seeing it since Eddie has informed me of who was in the cast.
Amazing to hear that Groucho tried this -- I'm glad he had the sense to have someone with him, no less Paul Krassner. I'm sorry to hear that Preminger was so mean to Groucho. Groucho's "embalmed" statement was perfect! Excellent article, Eddie!
Maybe you're just saying "that's what people think of when they see this image", but it should be noted that hedgehogs and porcupines are entirely different species.
She, like Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards and Eric "The Eel" Moussambani and others, is a reminder that the Olympics comes out of amateur athletics. Quoting Ranatunge Karunananda, who came in dead last in his race in the '64 Olympics and far behind the winner, "The Olympic spirit is not to win, but to take part. So I came here. I took part in the 10,000 metres and completed my rounds."
I knew someone would come out of the woodwork to argue here. Anders Breivik killed 77 people, the Vegas shooter killed 58 -doesn't really seem "tame" -especially when you consider that he was only one of the 1,624 shooters in the last 1,870 days in America. Yeah, this is the only country where this regularly happens and I defy you to come up with even two more mass shootings in other developed nations without using Google.
But by all means, use the only example you can to argue the fact that America doesn't need to change anything.

Maybe it was made as a "tax write-off" ?
Ah, good old days before lab rats were invented.
I think that best sums it up.
