Pets can reduce stress levels, help spruce up the office space, make people more social and make people take more breaks, which are really important to morale and concentration. If you're an employer, you might even suggest the idea to your empoyees -of course take any worker allergies into account first.
I would normally never post a TMZ video (heck, I wouldn't even watch one usually), but when it involves Sir Ian McKellen not only pulling off his pants live on stage, but also revealing Gandalf underoos with the words "You shall not pass" printed on them, I couldn't resist.
When you love your little angel with all of your hearts, you want to make sure she gets plenty of sleep and that she learns to love the best things in life. With this great Doctor Who mobile, you can help her do both by helping her to dream of delightful Time Lords, TARDIS and companions while she sleeps soundly under the watchful eye of The Doctor.
This great mobile belongs to some friends of UTLVRev1312, who bought the mobile on Etsy. As if this wasn't all geeky enough, the baby's name happens to be Amelia, though I assume her last name isn't Pond.
This Halloween, I didn't dress up and I didn't go to parties. I went to the San Diego Zoo -where I saw a bearcat eating out of a pumpkin, a rhino ignoring a pumpkin and an otter eating one. While that was a blast, that's nothing compared to the hijinx of the critters at the OC Zoo.
The critters at that zoo not only had all kinds of fun with pumpkins, but at least one of them even got dressed up. That's because little Betty is leash trained, so she was able to go be an animal ambassador while pretending to be a bee.
Thor is arguably one of the most manly Avengers, so it seemed all to appropriate to celebrate the release of the new Thor movie with a roundup of something decidedly less manly –crafts. Here are some of the best crafts dedicated to our favorite Norse-god-turned-comic-book-hero.
My Little Thory
These days, anyone who is anyone in the pop culture world has inspired a My Little Pony version of themselves and Thor is no exception. Here is DeviantArt user EatToast’s take on Thor as a resident of Equestria.
OctoThor
Prefer your heroes in cephalopod form? Then you’ll certainly enjoy Etsy seller Lizzabella1’s octopus Thor plushie. An octopus growing a goatee might seem strange to you humans, but in Asgard, it’s a pretty common occurance.
Thor Who?
There are actually a few owl-versions-of-Thor crafts out there, but I’m a particularly big fan of Jill Tow’s owl Christmas ornament, not only because she also did other Avengers, but because she used his feathered helmet in such a clever and cute way.
The World’s Slowest Superhero
Apparently, people love seeing The Avengers imagined as different animals. As cute as Etsy seller Fallendesign’s amigurumi Thor snail is though, I have a hard time imagining him declaring war on anything other than a garden.
The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of the handful of Halloweenish movies that is still appropriate for the Christmas season, which is one of the many reasons we love it. But if you need more reasons to love the movie than what's on film, Buzzfeed has some amazing facts about the making of the film that show just how much effort went into the stop motion masterpiece. For example, the characters had to be moved 24 times for each second of footage and that meant one minute of footage took an entire week to film -adding up to a total of three years for the film to be completed.
Oh, and Jack Skelington had over 400 heads to ensure he could express any emotion he might have and sync his mouth movements up with his words at the same time. Even if you don't love the movie, the article might very well give you a new appreciation for it.
I don't know about you guys, but no movie scene makes me more hungry than the famous Alien chestburster scene. Fortunately, the UK's Lou Lou P's Delights now sells these delicious-looking Alien macaroons depicting the chestburster, the mama and the facehugger so you can enjoy all the great flavors of the classic scifi film in one setting.
Someone call Ripley and Jones (my favorite Alien character is the cat, of course), because they're pretty much the only one who can survive eating these tasty, but terrible xenomorph treats.
What do you get a little gal who loves Toy Story, but would rather play as a space traveler than a cowboy? You could always try this Buzz Lightyear tutu so she can live out her fantasies of traveling to infinity and beyond without sacrificing her love of frilly dress up outfits. This adorable creation fits sizes 12 months through 5T and can be purchased through Etsy seller RainbowsLNG.
Of course, if I was going to pay $89 for a tutu, I would want one that fits me, but maybe she would make me a custom one so me and my youngster could match.
This little kitty here is enjoying his first snow day and he's just not sure what to think of this cold white stuff, but at least he's willing to give it a shot as a long as his human is there to protect him from any potential danger. As if the video of a kitty exploring snow for the first time isn't cute enough, consider this: his name is Jumbo Pillow -and he's so fluffy!!!
Jumbo, come to California and I'll take you on your first walk through beach sand and you'll realize how nice sun and surf can be.
We feature plenty of cosplay on this site, but most of it is photographed at conventions or specially sourced out locations suited to the character being portrayed. But what looks totally normal in a giant geek gathering, forest or castle looks utterly bizarro in the cosplayer's actual home.
And that's precisely what makes the Just the Two of Us photo series by Klaus Pitchler so brilliant and striking. The combination of something so mundane and boring with something so beautiful and outlandish makes for a stunning contrast that you simply can't look away -nor would you want to.
When I decorate for a party, I tend to put up some streamers and balloons, and, maybe a streamer if I'm feeling really fancy. But I'm not a film or set designer, so my guests don't really expect that much from me. That's not the case for our Facebook fan Michael Aiello, who sent us pictures of the decor for his Halloween Nightmare Before Christmas party.
If I put this much effort into party decorations, I'd keep them up for a while. Fortunately, with a Nightmare Before Christmas theme, you can use it again for Christmas -assuming you're inviting a different set of party guests that is.
Either way, I want to go to your next party Michael.
Brandy and lobster...pot pie? Sounds good to me, and so do the rest of these amazing pot pie ideas on Buzzfeed. And don't think that's the only elaborate and unique pot pie option out there. A few other highlights include a ratatoille pizza pot pie, taco pot pie and beet with goat cheese pot pie, which all look and sound unbelievably delicious.
If you want something perfect for the autumn season, the parsnip and squash one sounds nice and comforting on a cool night.
Now it's Lentil Bean's first Halloween and we are all too happy to get to see him in costume -especially given that it's a play on his silly little name. That might not be a lentil plant in his costume pot, but it still is a bean, which is close enough -and absolutely cute enough!
It's time again for Great Pics of the Week and while last week was all about playing it cool, this week, we're enjoying our geeky side. So come with us on a journey of delightful nerdery.
Apple's Jedi Mind Tricks
Have a problem finding a Droid that meets all your needs? Maybe you're jsut a stormtrooper and you don't know it.
People sometimes ask me why I always stay inside all the time. While many people assume it's because I'm lazy, it's really because I've read enough books to know better than to go outside.
If you were hired to create an ad for dog shampoo and cosmetics, you would probably be inclined to include dogs in the ad. Of course, that's not going to get your brand noticed beyond groomers, breeders and people already in the market for dog shampoo and cosmetics.
But ad agency BETC London knows how to get attention for their company. That's why they decided to show how well Wildwash natural dog products work not on dogs, but on grown men with their hair and beards styled to look like common show dog breeds. And aren't they pretty?
