Well, the bastard *should* go to prison for stealing - but I think 30 years is excessive. This only wins you "I'm tough on crime" points if you want to run for public office but I'm not sure how justice is served.
I'm sorry to hear about your situation Tim Giachetti! I hope everything will work out soon.
Re: moderation, Neatorama's blogging engine wordpress has a built in filter that will automatically put comments it suspects is spam in a moderation queue.
Unless it's plain dumb (like typing a single letter or word hundreds of time in a row) or profane without any point (yeah, we get those), your comment will be approved. It may take a while, since we have to look at the comment manually, but we don't censor comments because we don't agree with the commenter's point of view.
You guys are overly harsh on a new technology: yes a 19 year window is quite a sizeable one, but that's actually amazing that the software *can* discern adult vs. children's faces.
I remember the first few generations of voice recognition - those were horrible - but they did become much better over the years.
You can just see where the technology is taking us the next couple of decades.
Neatorama, like many blogs, use sponsored reviews in addition to advertisings to help defray the high cost of hosting and bandwidth.
Reviews are always disclosed. There is no pressure to write only positive things about whatever it we are reviewing.
Unfortunately, until bandwidth is free or we start charging everyone who reads Neatorama, advertising is the only way the blog can survive.
One Hundred Young Americans is a very interesting project by Michael Franzini - even if we didn't cover this on a sponsored review basis, I'd still highly recommend you guys check out the website.
"The Palestinian people are experiencing indifference and general complicity, these being the most wretched and the most contemptible acts of apartheid and Zionist fascism."
It's to my infinite sadness to watch the Palestinians and Israelis miss opportunities after opportunities for peace. Even with Arafat's passing and Sharon's illness, peace is still illusory.
This isn't just due to apartheid and Zionist fascism - the entire region is willfully neglecting their plight. Where are charities from the rest of the rich Islamic Arabic countries? All those princes and oil wealth trickle not to Palestine.
Anti-Zionist is often a euphimism for anti-Israel. Here's an article about a LeMonde interview with Tawfiq Mathlouthi, the founder of Mecca-Cola:
Mathlouthi says that when Muslims "buy an American good they know they are helping American imperialism, which helps the crimes of the Zionist entity, and that they are giving money to kill their brothers."
In response to Palestinian leaders who at least publicly have accepted Israel's existence, including Yasser Arafat, Mathlouthi replied: "We are not fighting for the same Palestine."
The French businessman wants the destruction of what he calls "the Zionist entity" and its replacement with an Arab state that covers the whole of British Mandate Palestine, LeMonde reported.
In a Sept. 22, 2002, broadcast, a caller referred to "Israelis," which brought an immediate retort from Mathlouthi: "What 'Israelis? I don't know any such thing. All I know is the Zionist entity."
