It is what it is, I'd never imagine there were so many different aspects to teenage culture and angst. Boy, did I waste my youth, these kids live much more interesting lives than me.
@jstruan: I agree that it's comparing apples/oranges. But back to 30 years in prison, in the 1990s the "Three Strikes You're Out" law was very popular in California.
Heck, I thought it was a great idea, until people were thrown in jail for relatively minor crimes - which put a tremendous stress on the prison system and caused overcrowding.
The problem with disproportionately harsh sentences is that they distract from solving the underlying problem of crime and will eventually cause more harm than good.
This may not be neat, but I think it's interesting. For a re-hash of arguments for and against Neatorama's non-neat posts, see Elephant Hanging [may be disturbing to some].
I do respect your view on hunting for sports. No, I don't hunt - my idea of enjoyable shooting another living being is using a camera.
Regardless, hunting is a legal sport enjoyed by millions of people around the world. Be it for sustenance or sport, hunting has been around as long as humans have and plays a central role in the development of humanity.
@Sparge: but that's another problem with maximum penalty and even "time served" - am I the only one that think it's ridiculous that someone could be sentenced to 4 days in jail and was let out after only 82 minutes like Nicole Ritchie?
It's scary how *easy* it is to become homeless in America. I used to think that they're just lazy bums, but I've come to realize that without a family (and friends) "safety net," we're all just one sickness, accident, lawsuit away from being homeless.

Or maybe that's a rant for another post. ;)
