Wow. Good detective work there, munky, this whole shebang must have been because she was not white. Cause, you know, if a white nurse had pulled two cops out of a NON-BURNING vehicle improperly, she wouldn't have been asked to come in for questioning. Oh, and no way in hell would she have been kept there- whites know how to treat their own, right? Cause all the cops involved (including the officers that questioned her, approached her after the incident, ALL of them) must all be white, and completely racist, right?

The only bad experience I've ever had with a cop was with a Hispanic guy. He pulled me over for no apparent reason and asked for my license, then asked me if my eyes were really gray. He proceeded to hit on me (made weirder by the fact that he pulled me over because he thought I was too YOUNG to be driving, which I've been pulled over before 3 other times, but never treated this way- not by cops of any color) and ask me if I could step out of the vehicle. I called 911 on his scary ass. I don't think all Hispanic cops are pervert freaks who try to get young girls now, and I don't think all white cops are racist ass holes. By the way, do you even know that the officers involved were white? You seem to be making a lot of assumptions that you probably shouldn't be making.

How about this, you contribute to the 8 million bucks they're paying her. See how you like it then.

Hey, peep, you're worse than they are if you say stuff like that.

Though I do think the fact that he said there would be trouble studying human reproduction at a Catholic University is stupid and kind of offensive, the all-out Catholic post was a little much.

You know what munky, I think that's just stupid. The conversation was going quite well until someone threw in the race card. Maybe her ethnicity had something to do with it, but not all. She was irresponsible in jumping in without calling 911- I'm a trained lifeguard, and know how to pull people out of things and give rescue breathing/cpr, but if I see an accident I am sure as HELL not going to proceed like she did. That was just stupid.

Your comment: "Those complaining about their ‘tax dollars’ being ‘wasted’ on such a ‘frivolous’ matter should perhaps be having a look at the culture of a Police department which is so fucked up that trumped up charges seem to be a Standrad Operating Procedure - the problem is not that she took them to court, the problem is that the PD NEEDED to be taken to Court in the first place"

YOU pay part of the $8 million to give to her then, how about that? I've been pulled over by cops of every color (4 times for looking too YOUNG to drive- talk about a bias there), the ONLY one that mistreated me was Hispanic. He hit on me, asked me to get out of the car to show him my eye color to prove my license wasn't a fake, and I called 911 on HIM. That doesn't mean all Hispanic cops are racist, it just means he was a prick. So yes, obviously because the woman was black, all the officers involved HAD to be racist, right?

You're right, it does take respect away from the law, however it does NOT warrant your comments.

Evil,

I'm so confused at how he was so close with Wright, then denied any friendship with him, saying "he's just my pastor." If he'd said "I was close with him, but I can't agree with his ideologies" much earlier, I wouldn't be so suspicious. People say Wright hasn't said such terrible things. He's said some pretty bad ones himself, but look at who he associates with. He gave a lifetime achievement award (based on honesty and integrity) to Farrakhan, who said that Whites aren't fully evolved, and has associated himself with the man who said "The henhouse of America is filled with foul white birds waiting to be slaughtered."

Sounds fantastic to me (Italian/Greek/Irish/Welsh/Austrian)

Ummm... Geekazoid... do you know anything about McCain's divorce from his first wife? They divorced quite amicably, and still talk. He came back from a POW camp in Vietnam a very changed man, and she accepted that. They have kids together and don't hate each other or anything. So the guy's divorced, that doesn't mean he was horrible to his first wife.

Also, what about him handling being a POW was disgraceful? The man was offered the chance to come back when he was first imprisoned, but turned it down when they wouldn't extend freedom to the other soldiers. He had all of his teeth knocked out in the camp, and was repeatedly tortured. How do you doubt that?

I'm sorry, I disagree with many of Obama's policies, and I hate how he's handled the Wright situation (oh God, don't get me started on Wright himself)... but really? Nitpicking at John McCain's POW status and former marriage? What is wrong with you?

Ugh... only spend money you actually have, Ed.

In response to a few of the posts here, I'm sorry, but no one's selling "bad loans."

If a loan company says you haev a flexible rate, and you sign it, YOU are responsible for paying that. Considering the government is forcing loan companies to go aginst the contracts, a TON of them are going belly-up. Why? They counted on the money that would come from those loans, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to make the ultra-low rate promises to people. If you sign something, you should be bound to it. It's not the insurer's fault you don't want to pay what you agreed to.

Oh, and Parker, if your knee-jerk reaction is to let a bear run into a crowd of people, I am going to make sure to stay as far away from you as possible, especially in bear territory.

I'd shoot a bear if it began to run toward a crowd of observers (which it says in the article). Also, polar bears aren't threatened. The WWF and other people tried to get it listed as such, but the foremost authority on polar bears wouldn't agree to it because "the polar bear population has increased dramatically over the past three decades."

These things aren't cuddly, they'll kill you. They aren't all dying out, they're reproducing quickly.

If you're going to do something THAT drastic, consult your employer first. I've worked at two places where people have disobeyed dress code for "legitimate" reasons (one got a tattoo when her mother died, the other refused to take off her grandmother's wedding band, putting her over the 1 ring per hand limit), but they were both fired. The employers were sorry, but if you have a dress code you have to stick to it.

This is ridiculous... however I don't think the "shaving her head" thing was. If you're going to do something that drastic to your appearance, consult your employer first. They have rules about that kind of thing at most places.

Lenore, it's sad to see all some people think about is bringing "diversity" into the government.

I say, the most qualified should get the job. I don't tihnk Obama is that one.

@ Stratoblogster

Don't even talk about Rodney King, because apparently you know nothing about it. At all. The violence after that was mindless and stupid, and I remember being evacuated from my home for fear of ignorant, angry people burning it down based on the color of my skin. The anger at a president being assassinated is not the same as that against police officers to (too severely, maybe) beat a convicted felon who was involved in a high-speed chase moments before, and who they suspected to be on PCP. Have you ever encountered or seen someone on PCP? You can shoot them in the face, and they'll keep coming, and they will kill you without a second thought.

Mindless anger and violence is not the same as legitimate response to presidential assassination. I hope no one gets killed after this, and considering the remarks I've heard, it's not Obama I'm worried about. People where I live seem to believe that if you kill a Republican president, the Democrats have a shot. I doubt he'll be in any more danger, and the fact that race seems to be all you see just makes me sick.

Ugh, I am sick of people saying, "See? A Black man made it into the Democratic party's top people. That would never happen with Republicans, bunch of racist hicks." when many Republicans pleaded with Condoleezza Rice to run, but she refused. I'm sick of people talking about how amazing Obama is, when he calls a horrifically bigoted and scary man his "confidante", then takes it all back. I mean, if his beliefs and friendships change that quickly, then what are we getting into? I know nothing of his stances, and neither do many of his supporters (at least, the ones that I know), and that really and truly frightens me. I'm not a Democrat, I'm not a Republican either, but I don't believe in a lot of things he appears to stand for.

Mostly, I hate the way he's completely sold out his identity to conform to people thinking he's "another Black American", because pandering to skin color is ridiculous. Unfortunately, denying half of his heritage and talking about racism that he never experienced (unlike Ms. Rice, interestingly enough)got him votes from too-proud people. I don't say they're too proud because they're voting for a Black man, which Obama isn't, I say it because they know NOTHING of what he stands for, but support him because they feel race is more important than anything else.

Screw this, I'm moving.

Way to promote generalization, Neatorama!

So what if I don't own a tv? I'm a poor college student who's too busy to care. And just because I like compassion in my religion doesn't mean I'm a nutjob.
