You can infer multiple ideas from the experiment:

Children become what they are told they are.

People are sheep.

People like having power over other people.

1984 and Idiocracy are both true prophetic visions.

People will do what they are told to their own detriment.

People suck.

Mark McKenzie, I'm not surprised this isn't a new idea; I would go so far as to bet that something similar to this was done on Gilligan's Island, as I remember them having some machines hooked up for pedal power. (Yet, somehow, they could never repair the dang boat. Hmmm.)

It is a good idea, though. Having everyone in the family take turns would help them appreciate just how much work there is to do to maintain one's lifestyle.

There's a hand cranked mini washer I've seen on infomercials. Adapting it might be quite workable.

We care because we will have to pay to support these children (yeah, I live in California). We care because these children will grow up neglected and probably unable to form necessary relationships with people. We care because Ms. Suleman has put her obvious psychological issues ahead of the immediate needs of 16 other people (her parents and children) and the needs of those who are paying to support those children. We care because we most certainly will be paying in money and misery for the psychological and physical issues these children will have as the result of their failure of a mother.

Reno Nevada has an underground library. When you approach the library, it appears to be a small, single story building, but once you step inside you find multiple levels, expanded underground. You cross a flyway to the front desk. On the bottom floor, there's a reading area with a fountain. It is one thing I really miss since I moved away.

As the cost of fuel rises, water grows scarcer, and general living expenses rise, it's good to realize that you don't need a McMansion for your family.

ABC's Home Makeover show makes me want to vomit sometimes. Yes, some families do need the space, but many times it seems as though those homes are overbuilt just to show off their construction skills and do extra product placement.

I feel sick just reading about this. How incredibly selfish of this woman. Who paid for the fertility treatments? Who donated the sperm? Let's get the baby daddy to cough up some money.

BTW, all the multiples shows seem to be on TLC, so I wrote TLC asking if they were members of Quiverfull. They never got back to me for some reason. *scratches head sarcastically* I did tell them that I would not be watching their channel ever again. Maybe if enough people write in, they might actually care. Join me?

Maybe this is our chance to wipe out the entire breed in one generation! No more investment bankers sucking bonuses out of non-existent funds while supporting lazy harpies.

Covenant Academy was completely out of line in asking the coach to apologize for the win. Apparently, Dallas Academy does not have a strong team. That's not Covenant's responsibility.

If I lost a game and the winning side apologized to me I would be ashamed and feel bad for them. Apparently, the Covenant coach did not play his team the way he would have in a tournament. He took advantage of the situation to get court time for second stringers, backed off on defense, and did not engage in anything that could be considered obnoxious while winning.

I'm also sick of the attitude that we ALWAYS need to help those who are less skilled (not less abled) to succeed. It's incredibly annoying at work when I have to continually help the same losers over and over again with the same problem. They've come to expect the help and if I'm busy and can't jump fast enough they whine to my supervisor. Thankfully, my supervisor just listens and it goes no further than her letting me know which whiner was crying again.

If someone shows me how to do something new, I write down the instructions. Then I keep the instructions and refer back to them when I need help. But these losers feel they can't be bothered with that, I should just leap up and help them because, throughout their careers, someone has always helped or been made to help them.

It's called responsibility, people. Take it, own it, show it.

chrome and I are in the same boat: ignoring my email will get me fired.

I HAVE to check my email first thing to see what came in while I was out.

We use email as a kind of IM at work, which means I have to get back to the sender within 1 to 5 minutes of receipt. That also means I HAVE to have email notifications.

We email each other if we are leaving the office for more than five minutes. We email if we're stuck on the phone and need something. We email because it's faster than a phone call.

Frankly, someone who writes for a living has a very different working life from most of us.
