I had incandescent bulbs in the ceiling fixture in my bedroom. One burnt out, making it rather dim. So I replaced them both with CFLs. It is just as dim, if not dimmer, for at least 10 to 15 minutes, until the bulbs warm up. And if one gets broken, I am supposed to leave the room for 1/2 an hour? That's more environmentally friendly?
I like my incandescent, living in northern Canada, if it's dark enough to warrant a light, it's cold enough to welcome its heat!

Watching a movie at home is not the same as going to one in a theatre, so I wouldn't compare it to Netflix. So for those that love the movies and are not afraid to leave their house, I think it's a great idea.

Yeah, double yolks. But can I just say ewww, for sticking her finger in her mouth to pick at her teeth first? I believe there is some risk of salmonella when handling eggs, is there not?

What a waste of a tasty treat. It was funny the one time, but after that, it's just stupid. You know what would be cooler? Buying ice cream for a homeless person, or someone in a shelter. Or take one over to your Mom!

I am not sure about the Scripps competition, but the one we did at our school for the national competition came with a list of possible words. As the competitions went on, the lists changed and got longer and much more complicated. But the competitors had some idea, because I can't imagine who would ever just happen to know the words the used in the finals?

I loved the film taken in Wigan. My grandmother lived there as a child before her family emigrated to Canada. That little girl riding on her father's shoulders would have been just her age. It was like a glimpse into what her world would have been like before moving into a cabin on the prairies! Thank you so much for sharing!

Why should they accept a return of a book (or anything)without a receipt - unless it was defective? Not that they should have made you feel like a thief, Alex.

Wow, this has to be the worst design for senior living ever! I understand the Portugal can be pretty hot, but that is no excuse for for not having any functional outdoor space. No trees (how long will it take for those tiny plantings to grow? Not in the lifetime of its residents.), no seating, no flowers, no shelter just lots of wide open spaces on slopes and angles. And the inside is not beautiful, just because it has marble. It seems very cold, with no artwork, or any interesting features to stimulate a person's brain. Even the writer of the article admits that the white on white scheme will be dificult for the seniors.
It was interesting architecturally, but it's functionality, for those who need it most, is sadly lacking

So it's nonsense to spend a little extra time to keep a dog alive? Take a look at the other posts on this website. How much time does it take to make a timeline of TV shows? Cross-stitch a computer game? Compose a movie mash-up? Make kitchen out of chocolate? We spend a lot of time doing things nature never intended.

Having worked at Ikea, I can tell you that there are no radically different stores, they all have a very similar layout. Of course they want you to stay and see everything they have so you buy more. That being said, I can also tell you that the public refuses to look around and read signs. If they did, they would find it very easy to get out quickly whenever necessary. One of the reasons I quit was because they wouldn't do anything about the lack of cashiers/huge lineups, one can only take so much abuse from understandingly frustrated customers.
