PS that's a picture of a toonie. The loonie is all one colour, usually with a loon on it. Of course, our brilliant minds came up with calling the 2 dollar coin a mixture of two and loonie...sigh.
I admit my knowledge of how economies and currencies work (or don't work) is not too strong, however, after what happened to Iceland and all the fishermen-turned-financial wizards, I don't think I want them anywhere near our loonies!
@Matthew - You see education as only a means to an end, not for the purpose of enlightenment. What makes him any different than an Olympic athlete? How much time do people spend gaming? Acquiring material wealth?
The missing lawn incident happened here in my home town. It did turn out that a landscaping company removed it and then realized it was the wrong home. I am not sure if they ever owned up to it, but another company offered to replace it for her.
The title is misleading, as no one is being forced to get married. "Quebec is the only province in Canada where spousal support payments are not recognized by law for de facto spouse" This is just fact in the rest of Canada. It's good for some situations, but sucks for the partner of a lying, cheating, thieving son of a gun.
As tempting as it might be to slug the little so-and-so, we are supposed to be the mature ones here. The lesson he taught the little kid? Hit strangers if they annoy you, even if they are smaller than you. I agree that the kid shouldn't have been there, and may be the product of bad parenting. But he isn't seeing better examples around him, is he? Be a grown-up; report annoying people to the management, or look for another seat.
That's ridiculous. I work in a school and we have students with special needs that act out on a fairly regular basis. Staff are trained to restrain them without anyone getting hurt. No one in that school knows how to restrain a 6 year old? They ought to be ashamed that they called the police. Do parents have to be home all the time so their child does not get arrested when they act out? I agree that CPS may need to be contacted, and that the parents lacked some responsibility. But I might have something to say if my 6 year old was handcuffed and taken to a police station.
While I have a lot to say about the dire predictions about the extinction of paper books, I am going to make a point about IKEA's redesign. If you watch any of the many decorating shows that are so popular these days, you will see they always put lots of ornaments on the bookshelves, instead of filling them up with books. This is so the multi-colours and various sizes of books don't mess up the decorating schemes. So consumers are looking for shelving to incorporate this style of decorating. So Ikea, instead of limiting their bookcases to only books, is making deeper shelves to accommodate a variety of items. One of the points in the article mentioned that now they have glass doors to make them into curio cabinets. Glass doors have been available for Billy for at least 20 years. And paper books aren't going anywhere soon.
I don't know about illegal, but it isn't a good idea. Maintain a relationship through a website with a wiki or use a staff e-mail, but not facebook. Aside from all the comments about covering your own behind, the students would also want to consider that fact. As a teacher, are you not obligated to report any inappropriate behaviour of students? You don't want to know those things, or you would have to get involved. There are lots of other apps that allow to you address and interact with groups of students.
I remember going to The Champ as a kid, and it was the saddest thing I had ever seen. I cried and my mom sat there, dry-eyed! I remember actually sobbing during Terms of Endearment, when she tells her son that she know that he loves her.
