I'm a crude, crass, cynical monster in most ways but jeez people! This is very interesting. I hope they keep doing it -- I'd be fascinated to have such a document of my own childhood. She looks like a lovely girl. May the creeps stay away.

I am white (as far as I know) and meet white people every day whose sentiment in general is "what more do black people want?" etc... and those are just the regular folks, not the actual racists. It makes me tired.

Rosa Parks was awesome. I am never tired of being reminded of what she and others did for civil rights. It affects us all.

If those gators had truly been hungry, this would not be a video filed under "aww cute". What's with the dumbass people just filming away, and not interfering? They must hate cats.

This is fascinating on numerous levels. What a great story! It sounds like she is exactly the kind of ruler anyone would want. Education for girls has been shown to improve the lives of entire communities, for example.

Gurning is a strenuous sport! Here are remarks from her husband, an article when she collapsed after last year's competition:

"We are still not sure why she collapsed but she does suffer from emphysema and asthma. We think when she was screwing up her features it brought the turn on. We thought it was a stroke at first, but she seems OK now."

"Sugar is sugar": no. There is a great deal of research to back the link between the rise of HFCS use in foods and the increase in obesity. Some sugars are more easily digested and processed by the body than others. Natural, readily available sugar such as that found in an apple is very different in structure from HFCS, which must be created via a complex chemical process... and while we're on the subject of non-foods, sodium bromate is a commonly used dough conditioner, banned in most countries as a known carcinogen but used in the US (especially in fast-food chain buns and breads).
