Felixthecat how would you feel if you were saddled up with oh-so-intellectual Eleven Books hanging from your neck by some well-meaning friend that cares for your ears and intellectual well-being instead of giving you a nifty MP3 player with your favorite songs...?

Okay ... Not tiMewriter but tiPewriter and not nead but need--- Longlive a functioning grammar-and-spelling-control-button...

That is a next thing why people should learn to handf-write- Once it is put on paper, to much corrections makes stuff unreadable.... ;-)

Cursive righthanded drawed script was developed because of the use of a certain pen in combination with the need to write as fast as possible while keeping things more or less decipherable and clean.

When other kinds of pens and the timewriter and its successors came into existance, the nead for cursive dissapeared.

I myself write in a variation of Karolingian minuscule because in my youth the teachers found out my right hand was not able to handle fluent cursive, so after years of trying and punishment they finally gave up and some bright spirit tried Karolingian with me- No problems with writing since then, both righthanded and lefthanded, normal or in mirror.

People should be able to write by hand. They should be able to do that about as fast as with keyboard and they should be able to write in such a way that others can still read it easily. But how they do that is by now completely irrelevant- Cursive or loose characters, that does not matter anymore- Any official text nowadays can be written down in any font that is desirable- even in prefab "hand-written" cursive font that you take from a ready set or that you compose yourself.

I like Irish fonts and Gothic fonts.
Cursive? Only if lots of curls and adornments are added.

Yes I agree with all above.
I also did expect a list that at least incorporated the first stonetipped bludgeon in Caveman-Era, the fist well-educated young former priest Egyptian slave in a Roman Household, the all new florett for the well to do citizen in the early 1700's or from the same time the new extra long-haired now sophisticated Pínk wig for the Fashionable Man, the all new 2-Valet-carried wheelless car or the goldplated Derringer that fits every-mans new suit and attire in the mid-1800's.

Why is it so darn important for some humans to make "Art" out of ordinary stuf???

Thát is what I don't get...!

Why not just leave it and appreciate for what it is and nothing more?

I think the whole point of discarded tinfoil is that it can be and perhaps has to be recycled as soon as possible into other stuff we use. To use discarded tinfoil for art could be considered a form of deliberate waste of recources. I don't say that that would be an argument here, but I do think sometimes arguments like that can be more valid than to say that one makes Art.

To me, it feels like lots of people label stuff they put on a pedestal as "Art" as a lame excuse to do things that otherwise never would be accepted by other people. And that is for me what stings in some Art.

...But then on the other hand: Hey if you can get away with it and gain fame, glory and possibly even your bread and butter with it because there are fools who want to buy into your scam, I wish All the more Glory and Succes to you...! 8-)

Lighthouse I have a bit of a problem with " I find it interesting that what we consider rudeness is people actually expressing what they think or feel, instead of letting it go unsaid or expressing it euphemistically."

So if -true to some places on the internet where opinions are given straight and direct without a moderator- if people behave rude and hurting towards other in the here and now, we just should accept that?

So for example like Hey it was my opinion that that busdriver rode like Sh... so I busted his ass and yelled him out of his skin in front of all the passengers and that is my right- I was just expressing an honest atentic opinion that is Me...!

By the way that was not a fake or exaggerated example- That is what nowadays happens about 4 times a week in the Netherlands with busdrivers.
...You say that we just should accept that for the sake of honesty...?

Sure in Ye Olden Days it wasn't much better- On the contrary- in the US and in most parts of Europe, up until WW2 it was custom with reason to carry some weapon for selfprotection if you went on trips outside the city. And even in lots of cities in Europe and the US there were parts where even the cops daren't go.
After WW2 there was a downward line in civil violence. That line roughly was downward until the 1970's. But from there it went upward again.
Civilised behavior does not go parallel with that- It seems that that went it's own way beïng that "civilised" for wery long time was defined by the class you lived in. What was considered civilised in one layer of society, was considered rude in another layer of that same society.
With the industrialisation and the upcoming of consumerism and the accompanying rise of wages and dissapearing of class-differences, one greater general definition of "civilised" started to appear.

...Perhaps we see a next change happen in what "civilised" means to people...?

Another Tim
1. As long as we're talking continents, powerlines are used already extensively to trade with electricity- If there is more need for electricity in Norway, powerplants in Spain provide for that. We even trade electricity with some former USSR-states from powerstations as far away as the UK. Same can be done with solar.
The transfer of energy without wires is the thing that is by now developed to a useful level. So that would mean that even between continents electricity could be traded.

2. If we have a global energygrid, you just draw energy from where the sun is.

3. Wind energy, solar cells that more and more do not even need direct sunlight, water-reservoirs that are pumped to the brim with water and that make hydro-electricity at peek-demand (nowadays already frequently used as strorage-facility for enectricity)

4. If the choice urgently becomes Stone-Age revisited or some ugly solar panels or windmills to keep up with your demand for playstation-time and light in dark nights and power for your vacuümcleaner, how would you choose...?

Again- this picture is just to show really how little is needed on a global scale. So why not shred those drawn big surfaces and scatter them all over the rooftops of our homes, industries and other facilities that nowadys have rooftops that at this time only serve as defense against wind and rain an sun....?

B.M. Two things:
What country do you mean? I guess the U.S. But this is global. Look at how people treat eachother in China, the former USSR, lots of European countries, in countries in Africa, in Mexico...

I think there is corellation between the way you behave towards eachother and the way the country you live in treats other countries and conflicts.

So yes perhaps we have more to worry about than manners, civilisedness and politeness.
But those attitudes and behavings do influence how we act as nations globally. To put it in a perhaps Flowerchild-context- The dissapearing of civil behaviour and the parallel dissapearing of showing respact towards one and other also makes the "We-feeling" in our comminities vanish rapidly.

Problem is, Alex that you need someone who believes you are an ARTIST worth of being exhibited in some fancy Gallery or Museum.

This is the Ultimate frustration of some of us Unbelievers of Art- We do things daily and we make glorious stuff that everybody laughs or smirks aside.

But if some fancy Artist makes exactly the same junk and it gets put in some fancy place, suddenly it is called ART and it gets this Aura of Holyness and Sacrecy around it - A whole floor of some Art-Museum covered with thousands of old smked fags....? In any other place everyboday just thinks it is Bad dirt. but now .... It Isss Arrrrrt....! Someone letting Farts during a Happening...? Nooo that is not Rrrrude- It Is Arrrrt because that person who does it is an Arrrrtist....!

Glorious Giant Tinfoil Ball...! Yeeey Art...!

I think it is the interaction. Who is first- the followers that just "Do" things because their great examples do so too. Or is it the examples that just do what they think that their followers want them to act like. I think both- We humans are ultimate Herd-animals that on a lower level like to do nothing better than join the crowd.

And so gradually the crowd thinks that it is cool to act civil because they see their examples, their heroes act uncivil. But the examples, the heroes act uncivil because they are convinced that they will be loved by all because they act in an even more exaggerated way uncivilised.

And that is why the porn gets raunchier, the violent movies get more violent and agressive and the Stars act more and more uncivilised, rude, antisocial.

Some examples of this can be seen in the HipHop-culture and the Rap-scene where it is considered Cool to act like a Gangsta and talk like you gonna commit murder any time soon on even your closest friends, while collecting massive amounts of cash and weath with whatever means possible and while gathering "Bitches" around you that you can degrade to sex-objects.
But also movies like Iglorious Basterds or Trasinspotting and ...Rambo Umptime show the glory of being Agressive Dork.

Aside from that, in my direct environment I see that anonimity also helps the growing of uncivilised behavior- People don't see the profit in acting civil towards people they don't know.
Another thing is that where I live, by lots of people, civil behavior is considered as a sign of weakness and even Sissyness. If you are unsure, act dorky and agressive and you will prevail on you shortterm-objectives. That it could backfire in the long run doesn't seem to matter that much.
In my neighborhood this was realised by some of us and we acted on that- We got to know eachother and lo and behold the civil climate turned overnight and got much better and petty crime went down immediately.

So I think there lies the problem- Who dares to act first to turn this spiral round to point it the other way and make civil behavior look cool again?
