@ Jason Morrison,

Safety and education is available at any college or university! Truthfully, all these people could easily do what they desire if they found the right lab and adviser, who would also help get them the proper equipment and funding. Even at the Master's level, you can ask to do independent work.

My other thoughts:

Why do I support research in Universities controlled by departments and those who provide funding? This means that MOST researchers have to document and share their research. Universities want people who will publish for the scientific community, attracting fame and money.
Also, there is a rigorous, independent ethics board at every university that is there to protect us from people doing dangerous and hazardous experiments. Their sole purpose is to protect the rights of humans and animals that may be affected by what an independent researcher does in their lab. (YES, it might sound odd to say, but there is a high level of independence even in academic labs).

Think tanks and corporate labs are the places of which I am afraid.

I agree with the nose comments, but she is lovely, and power, make-up, and overall attitude could take this face from slightly above average to sultry and otherworldly. Its been admitted that Cleopatra was a genius with her make up and other skills...

I can never relate the computer generated face to the real world, they are just too cartoonish for me, but I have a friend who has similar features (who is stunning), and with the mixed ethnicity, she has genetic variability on her side.

rabbitspade, this particular image may have been created by a user on http://icanhascheezburger.com/ So while this website cannot be credited for the creation of lolcats, if it is the website containing that particular image then it should be cited.

I love this image.

Finally, I realize some things Neatorama posts may seem silly compared to what is going on in the world, but frankly, as one of the Southern Californians tired of seeing their landscape going up in smoke, I do not find reports on the damages 'NEAT' and have an abundance of websites where I can find this information if I so need it.

The mechanism they may have found or been talking about is what developmental researchers have already acknowledged in humans, that genes don't just send out commands from an impenetrable biological safe, but that the environment can send information back into the genetic system and provide information about how genotype should influence phenotype.

To extend Darwin, as certain individuals develop, the ones who have genotypes which are able to produce phenotypes successful in the environment will be able to reproduce, ensuring that their specific gene & environment interaction patterns are available for the next generation in that location. (I think) changes to the genotype will probably occur (over time) during mating with other successful individuals.

So, in much more simple life forms, it may appear as if they are 'choosing' to evolve certain ways, but it may be something more along these lines...And they've found a model to show us exactly how it works.

That is a clever peanut-butter saving technique! But truthfully, I've noticed products getting smaller and have started calculating price-per-unit when it is not provided. What I've also learned is that bulk doesn't always mean cheaper! Check with your calculator before purchasing the bigger package.

We should have had that at high school graduation, but it would have been a little bit harder to hide and much harder to inflate.

I wonder how they went about getting this made and what the workers who put it together were thinking. Seems more like a parade balloon/float than anything else. Though watching it bounce on the video was great.

"So I slapped her and said she was a bad girl"
rofl, my favorite part of the whole advertisement.

I love how bad tasting laxative can be a 'shock to her delicate nervous system' but a slap wasn't.

I went and read the article from the link, and unless I am mistaken, what the findings actually mean to me is this: Everyone dreams in color, but because people over 55 watched black and white movies more, they dreamed in b/w 15-20% more of the time than people who didn't watch b/w movies often.

So, to me the title seems misleading because most of us dream in color most of the time. It would make sense that people watching b/w TV dream in b/w sometimes because I'm sure we've all had dreams about the movies/news/cartoons we watch, so for the brain the surroundings of those dreams would be in b/w. I am sure they still watch the movies they enjoyed when they were younger, and the subconscious still dredges up those memories while they are asleep.
