Good point, someguy. If we can just burn all that oil those pesky environmentalists are protecting, then hundreds of millions of people will die when the sea levels rise. This will reduce demand and prices will drop. Let the market work!
Seriously, people in Europe pay more for their petrol (in part) because of higher taxes on the stuff. These taxes go on to fund excellent public transportation systems (at least compared to ours). I'd be all for higher prices if the money were being used properly. Instead it's all going to record breaking profits for oil corporations who exist only to make more profits--even if that means the planet has to die.

People will jump through almost any hoop to deny a phenomenon that doesn't fit their materialist world view. It's such a sad way to go through life. What makes it worse, to me, is how angry and nasty people get about it. Of all the available religions, materialism and scientism have got to be the most reactionary.

I think trivia is the least of their worries. I notice that many entries appear to be monitored and "scrubbed", especially anything to do with alternative healing or so called 'conspiracy theories'. Huge corporations can afford to hire people just to keep information out of wikipedia! That's no trivial problem.

Actually, the most promising new development is Ultra Capacitors, a non chemical energy storage method that lasts almost indefinitely and can be recharged very very quickly. Google it.

It doesn't seem very helpful to discourage folks from trying to change or improve the situation. If we'd put the money we've spent on the Iraq war into solar and wind, we'd have replaced our fossil fuel power plants by now. Seriously.
And it looks like we'll be getting about 33,000 gallons/acre of biodiesel from algae in the near future.
It's probably true that we can't keep running this horrible society we've created, no matter what. But bad mouthing tree planting seems counter productive to me.

Hey Jim (#17) I think it's spelled 'imbecile'. And by the way, name calling hurts feelings. That's what I always tell my kids when they're rude to someone. (Feels a bit awkward telling another adult).

I have to disagree, I didn't think it was so funny. Benny Lava made me laugh out loud (lol). But this one has much better dancing! And costumes. And sets.

I don't know anything about this magazine, or whether it's actually real, but modern astrology is primarily about understanding the human psyche with it's different aspects and changing dynamics, not 'fortune telling'.
Still, I guess astrology is always good for a cheap shot to make folks who cling to a materialist philosophy feel superior.
So, ha ha! Great gag!

We really don't know who won that primary and probably never will. Why? 81% of the votes were cast on old Diebold machines. You can (and probably should) watch them (these exact same machines) being hacked on YouTube.
It takes about a minute or two.
I don't blame people like Anthony (above) for wanting to hide their heads in the sand. It's a very scary thing to face up to.
Whenever we hear the words like "surprise" and "unexpected upset" in an election with electronic voting machines and no paper trail it's time to take a closer look.

Another problem with these statistics is that they show George W Bush winning the elections in 2000 and 2005. Al Gore and John Kerry, respectively, won these elections but were cheated out of taking office through manipulation of vote counting in Florida and Ohio and elsewhere. Which raises several questions--will 2008 also be rigged? And if so, what the hell difference does Iowa or New Hampshire make anyway?
We go on pretending that Bush won and is our legitimate president because facing the truth is just too overwhelming.

Far more interesting experiments with dogs have been done by Rupert Sheldrake. His books "Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home" and "The Sense of Being Stared At" are fascinating, thought provoking and firmly based in scientific methodology.
