Well, it's the usual problem: this idea may have merit to it, but the authors are attempting to "prove" this through an artificially created study with students-- not employees-- in 100% artificial situations. Nothing about this-- NOTHING-- really corresponds to anything that would actually be happening in the real world. So much more could have been done here.

Strong family resemblances can be handed down for literally hundreds of years. So that's one explanation. One of his ancestors lived in Tennessee. But no, everyone always has to go for the vampire explanation... ;)

No, Vug. No nononono. There are no human beings on the planet who actually think that. Either you came directly through a wormhole from BizarroWorld, or you're just trying to yank our chains. Scrappy Doo was a source of ultimate evil in our universe-- small, perhaps, but significant nonetheless.

I've been saying this for a looooooong time.... once you're on a social networking site, your privacy is gone. Do not fool yourself into thinking that any "privacy settings" you imagine you are controlling make any difference at all.

As USUAL with these kinds of articles, we have no way of knowing if the sweeping generalizations that make up most of the content are based on anything accurate because we have no way of seeing the original data (and there's no link-- as always!) What did the study actually say? What percentage of the group really said that they perceived the return journey as being "longer"? Was there a selection bias? What was the methodology? Etc., etc., etc.... if any of these articles ever provide a link to the study they were based on, I think I'll send chocolate to everybody on the list...

Anyone who actually cares about not having potential employers, God, and everyone else find out every detail of your life that you didn't want everyone else to know avoids social network sites like the plague. Most people simply have no idea at all of the privacy rights they're handing over, or the kind of trouble they can get into. Imagining you can avoid it all by adjusting "privacy settings" is laughable.

"Some clinicians have reported that bitterness can result from Post-Traumatic Embitterment Disorder (PTED)*, which may develop after severe negative life events and requires appropriate treatment."

Um, excuse me? This supposed "disorder" is not in the DSM-IV-TR (and there's no reason to believe that it's going to be in the DSM-V.)So it's not recognized *as* a disorder by the APA, the AMA, or any other official body. It sounds a lot more like a case of a couple of researchers promoting a pet project without demonstrating that there's any decent research behind it. I would have liked to have at least seen a link to the actual study, which the Atlantic article certainly didn't have.

They really weren't kidding about three or four of those couples looking EERILY alike. #2 are particularly creepy. Um, I hate to say it, but cousins never look that similar. I don't really want to think about that one... Anyway, Couple #1 manage to look happy. Was it really necessary for almost everybody else to look SO miserable??

Okay... I know EXACTLY how you'd do the Tom Collins pie so that it would be very, very, very good. :) I just came up with the recipe, and out of the goodness of my heart, I am sharing it with everyone here.

Tom Collins Pie
(adapted from a grasshopper pie recipe)
(Enough calories to satisfy Homer Simpson!)

25 chocolate sandwich cookies
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 cups marshmallow creme
1/4 cup sloe gin
2T Limoncello (lemon liqueur)
2 cups whipping cream

Crush cookies and set aside 1/4 cup of crumbs. Place remaining crumbs in a medium bowl and mix in melted butter. Press mixture firmly into bottom and sides of a 9 inch springform pan.
In a large mixing bowl, whip together marshmallow creme, sloe gin, and lemon liqueur until smooth. In a separate bowl, whip cream until soft peaks form, then fold into marshmallow mixture. Pour mixture into pan and sprinkle reserved cookie crumbs on top. Freeze at least 2 hours, until firm. Remove from freezer 20 minutes before serving to soften slightly. Top with a maraschino cherry. You can also substitute all lemon liqueur for the sloe gin-- don't use regular gin, btw, because real sloe gin is also a liqueur. If you don't use sloe gin, top the pie with grated nutmeg.

Enjoy! Personally, I'm making this recipe SOON. :)

"We'll have to sacrifice," he said. "This is a raw deal for our generation."

Join the not-so-exclusive club of many, many generations past.

LOL! YES! I logged on specifically to leave *that exact comment*! Okay, not in those precise words.... but really, every generation (X,Y, whatever that last weird one was) mentioned in the first sentence of the article has particularly had exactly the same deal. We are the ones who have had to deal with American jobs disappearing overseas; they were right here for several previous generations. Those were also the generations who enjoyed the benefits of unionized jobs, which we didn't get. We are also the ones who are going to have to deal with no Social Security and no Medicare in the future. So for these kids to start heaping on the self-pity... SPARE ME!!!

Out of all of these pics of the kids (if you go to the link), the absolute creepiest one has to be:

"4-year-old Jasmine has participated in over 100 child beauty pageants and lives in a large house in the Kentucky countryside."

ICK!!! Wrong in SO many ways.
