Our son Zach (15yo) is mentally challenged. He high fives people all the time -- just for being themselves.

Case in point: my husband and Zach were in DC during "Capitol Pride" weekend. They were waiting for a metro train, and when it stopped, Zach started high-fiving people as they came off the train, and others as they got on. Soon it became a party, with a large group of lesbians cheering everyone who got a high five.

My husband said it was very cool. :-)

I live in Virginia. Virginia has mountains, beaches, and farmland. It is beautiful.

Unfortunately, services for adults with cognitive disabilities in Virginia SUCK. So we have to move before our son graduates from high school. Anyone out there have a state they can recommend?

This reminds me of the time my 4 yo used his new skill with scissors to trim the whiskers on one side of the cat's head.

The cat walked around leaning his head to one side for weeks afterward!

HAHAHA! Former classmates planning our 25th reunion sucked me into Facebook. My 18yo son is all wigged out that I'm on it. However, I have not asked him to "Friend" me because I think that's creepy.

We know a mother of 5 children who lost her youngest baby to SIDS. She had one of these very life-like dolls, and dressed it in her dead baby's clothes. She carried that doll around just like a baby. We did feel enormously sorry for her, but still, it freaked us out. About a year or so later, she finally stopped carrying it around all the time.

I'm a Dem and the mother of multi-racial children, and I say that his comment is not racist.

Maybe a little disprespectful, but unfortunately, it's seems that both Obama and McCain campaigns are being disrespectful as we go into the last weeks of the campaign.

Personally, I can't wait until this crap is over. Neatorama, please don't post anymore political items.

Basically this accusation came after the mother had run-ins with the school about their ability to educate her child and keep her safe at school.

Every year, thousands of US parents with disabled children are either threatened into submission or reported to Child Protective Services after run-ins with their child's school. I should know: it happened to us.

My son's school wanted him out -- they didn't want children who were deaf and cognitively challenged to be included in the deaf program. On the advice of deaf education experts from Gallaudet, we fought to keep him in the program. The school responded by reporting us to CPS, citing neglect. CPS quickly discovered the allegation as "unfounded."

I will never trust anyone in the public school system again.
