Eggs and milk may not bring direct harm to the animals....but what about the fact that, due to their demand, the animals can be treated poorly? Less moral farmers will run a dairy cow to the ground if he needs to get milk. Chickens are not usually kept in ideal conditions.

How cruel is cruel?

I think the point was more that, anytime we use something that was an animal, came from an animal or was used on an animal, we are potentially put animals in less than comfortable situations.

I also don't care unless for the most part. People do what they can to get by. I wouldn't try hard to harm animals, but if there is someone out there whose only way to survive is working for a company that is cruel to others, who is to say he is wrong?

Many of the people harming the rainforest are small groups of villages who need the wood for their homes and fires. I can't say that I would want to stop them.

Also, am I the only one who doesn't think the picture boasts much artistic merit?

My guess is that they did not test other animals because they were so sure that the myth would be busted. Adam mentions the fact that when he woke up that morning he was CERTAIN that it was not possible.

I can imagine that they will need to revisit this.

Consulting someone who specializes in Animal Behavior would be a good idea, too.

I think the whole thing is possible. After all, the tunnels are extensive and finding someone down there would be near impossible.

Especially if the rats got to it!

Despite the fact that we are surrounded by evacuation areas, Carlsbad (to the west) is doing pretty well. Air condition isn't very bad at all here. Except for the ominous orange glow in the sky and slight smell or bonfire, I wouldn't know the difference.

Traveling up to Irvine is different. As is traveling anyplace south of here.

Luckily, some people have been let back into their homes and some of the major roads have re-opened.

"Ohh burn on me. Sorry I don’t know all the rules and regulations about fires is California, I’ll try harder to be more informed from now on. Thank you soooooo much my new intelligent friend Alex.

Okay maybe then this is what we get for overpopulating areas that don’t have enough water. But I’m probably wrong about that too huh Alex?"

Why does this need to be a human error at all? What about it is something that would have happened naturally. It is just made all the more tragic since there are people living here because of the many other assets of living in southern california.

I wouldn't say myself that that this area is over populated. Although, that has nothing to do with the fires. The areas that are most affected are houses that are generally on larger lands. There are a lot of ranches that have been in danger. Sure there is not much water in those areas naturally, but there is not much water in ANY part of San Diego county.

Your comment come off as fairly ignorant and pompous. Perhaps part of that is because of your blaming (especially uninformed blaming.)

If you don't have something to say that actually has some content or genuine concern, why bother? Let those whose homes are burning alone. Instead of trying to make some absurd commentary on the state of our living out here. Personally I am proud of San Diego. This is an evacuation the size of Katrina. There is only 1 reported death. There were more volunteers than victims in some evacuation centers and, as a whole everything has proceeded fairly fluidly. The firefighters are doing an amazing job and they work night and day.

So stop with the snarky comments.

I'm in North county San Diego near the witch creek fire. So far mine is one of the few places not to have been asked to evacuate. If I were to walk a mere 10 minutes down the street I could walk into an evacuation zone.

Strangely enough, there is little smoke above us. We can barely smell the fires. Perhaps that is why our hotels filled up by 5 this morning.

If they further the evacuation site to my area, the only place we can really go is to the ocean. It wouldn't make any sense for us to try and head any further. We have packed my 3 room tent and sleeping bags, dog food, etc.

Wish us luck

I'm guessing (based on the comments above) that none of you are part of any vintage crowds.

There is a small group of people who live vintage everyday of their lives. I happen to be friends with some of them here in California. They not only dress in re-pro vintage clothes (and sometimes real vintage clothes) but they drive vintage cars, use vintage vacuum cleaners, toasters, radios, TVs, telephones, egg timers, lights, fans, doorknobs, desks and the like. Getting married in a vintage setting would only be natural to them. In fact, my cousin already has her dressed picked out and waiting.

I admit, the war aspect is a little odd....but then again, there is an annual dance in LA that has a blackout re-enacting a very strange occurrence back in the 40s.

As far as vintage people disrespecting those who were in the war....the friends I have regularly make friends with the war veterans. I have yet to see a war veteran refrain from smiling and talking to them.

That is very cool.

Photoshop may be becoming a bit outdated but I think that, as it stands, you can accomplish most anything you would like to.

That is not to say that I don't think we could use some more cool stuff for photoshop :P

For someone interested in ceramics, it is almost a shame that so many of these old ceramic pieces have to be destroyed. Admittedly, they look like the kind one would find at a cheap antique sale....but they could be very important pieces.
