Very cool. I didn't know you could sing overtones!

I had a flute piece where a large section was done purely in overtones. I like this better, it doesn't sound as annoying as a flute would :P

"When you stumble across a bad idea from the past, remember that likely everyone in the past thought it was a bad idea too. That’s why it didn’t catch on."

Asbestos would be an exception to that. Once nicknamed "The miracle mineral!"

Wow, it's weird to see this picture again. My mom has the booklet this came from at home (as well as several others.) There is a whole sub culture of people who collect these pamphlets and fallout kits. Some of the rarest fallout kits are the ones that have a portable toilet (with bag for easy disposal) included.

There are all kinds of hilarious things (read "disturbing") about these things. What people were told to do!

I can't imagine spending years of my life with my family under a kiddie pool waiting for the environment to be safe again.

Working in a hotel we have a couple of areas to write notes about the guests. Usually it is things like

"CC XXXX1006 for guarantee only"
"Guest requests quiet room"
"Will want rollaway"

But sometimes we end up with messages that say

"Guest is a pain!!!! Watch out!!!!"
"Guest yells frequently"

People never see it, they couldn't. It doesn't happen very often and in the case of a hotel, it helps other front desk clerks stay aware of troublesome guests.

There are images of her with her tattoos.

This is one of those rare happy side-show stories. So many of the "freaks" had trouble. Even if the circus they ran with did take care of them.

Jean Carroll is one of the side-show characters I really enjoy reading about. The same with Johnny Eck. He was able to make a fairly happy life for himself. Even despite his lack of a lower body.

If you don't want people calling you at home, don't list your phone number.

I have always considered it very unprofessional for anyone to have their spouse call for job-related matters. One time, one of my supervisors had her husband call in to her work and yell at one of the employees under her. She couldn't get on the phone because she was "too upset."

Even worse was that the husband, since he knew practically nothing about the situation, was yelling at our new hire who had no idea what was going on.

The student also probably called him at his home when he thought he would probably not be at the office yet. After all, school hadn't started yet. I think that is perfectly reasonable. Even if the kid was rude or unreasonable, they should have asked to speak to his parents instead.

My grandma used to only have dogs but as she got older she wanted a cat. We got her one but we quickly decided the cat was not fit to be an outdoor cat. So, we blocked off the sideyard that lead off her room from the backyard. Then we put up some lattice work from the roof to the fence and left half of it with some netting to allow more sun. She has grown all kinds of plants out there and it looks like amazing. The cat can go in and out as it likes, it has a wonderful place to roam and there is no worry.

That is what responsible pet owners do.

When I looked at our local grocery store we had a woman who would always bring in her chihuahua in on her little metal bag cart. We frequently asked her to keep the dog outside and she always ended up trying to sneak it in.

Until we were informed that, at least around here, service animals ALWAYS need to be admitted...even if the person doesn't have the papers to prove it.

We protested because of the sanity problem with having dogs and such around the backery and Deli but we were told to cooperate from our corporate office.
