There have been movie biographies of Vincent Van Gogh before, but the as-yet-unfinished film Loving Vincent has a twist. It will be the first feature-length movie made entirely of paintings. The animated film will require 56,800 oil on canvas paintings, 12 for every second of the movie. The paintings, by a crew of 100 artists, will all evoke Van Gogh’s unique style, and will reference 120 of his works. The plot is based on 800 of his letters.
Loving Vincent is the brainchild of Poland-Based painter and filmmaker Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman of Breakthrough Films. There’s no release date yet. -via Uproxx
