The Frightening Yet Fascinating World Of North Korean Propaganda Videos

North Korean propaganda videos can be thought of as a form of brainwashing that is full of falsehoods and completely anti-American, but beneath all the easily perceived negativity there’s a lot of interesting stuff going on in.

(YouTube Link)

There are messages of hope and determination, themes of normalcy and overcoming any obstacle, and the ultimate underlying overlying message- the all powerful Supreme Leader will protect all of North Korea’s chosen people.

(YouTube Link)

All of that aside, there’s also lots of goofy acting, wacky lines that may or may not be simply lost in translation, and an overall sense that the filmmakers behind North Korea’s propaganda department haven’t seen any movies made after 1993.

These North Korean Propaganda Videos Are Downright Fascinating

If People Talked About Their Hobbies As Much As Runners Talk About Running

(Image Link)

Runners are a fanatical bunch, and even though there’s not much to the hobby (sport? exercise?) they seem to be able to talk about running ad nauseum.

Wouldn't it be funny to see what it would look like if people talked about other hobbies, like baking, knitting and photography, half as much as runners talk about running?

(YouTube Link)

Oh wait, it looks like CollegeHumor made a video with exactly that premise, how convenient! (NSFW due to language)

ICONIC RIVALRY - The Fast And The Fiery

ICONIC RIVALRY by OhHeyDJ

They come from different consoles, where their abilities are allowed to shine in very different ways. Mario is the offensive powerhouse, able to squish turtle troopas out of their shells, grow to super size and launch a deadly ball of fire. Sonic launches himself at enemies like a living cannonball, spins his way through the bad guys and prefers running really fast to standing around smashing bricks all day. They're console rivals, but could become the best of friends if their virtual worlds were ever threatened by a Robotnik-Koopa mega-boss team-up!

Legend Of Minion - Despicable Horsemanship

Legend Of Minion by Kinda Creative

Gru's minions love to play video games, but they don't play them on a gaming console, they play them for realsies! One of their favorite games to play is called The Legend of Epona, a game that involves one minion riding around on the back of another while a despicable minion calling itself Zelda chases after them both. It costs the minion playing Link one banana to ride, which is a small price to pay for hours of horsin' around, but in the end the only real winners are those who watch this tri-farce taking place!

Quit horsin' around and grab this Legend Of Minion t-shirt by Kinda Creative, it's the perfect attire for a night at the movies or a night spent at home playing video games.

Still Marvelous V2 by SilverBaX

Wade's merc business had gone bust on Earth so he hitched a ride to another planet far, far away and prepared to live a new life as an intergalactic bounty hunter. He imagined himself as the star of the show, a new helmet head who would reduced the dead or alive bounties to a pool of goo and bring the rest in all wrapped up like a chimichanga. The galaxy is currently engaged in all out war...

Fantastic Protest Art By Hiroshi Nakamura Created In The 1950s

Protest art comes in many stylistic flavors, and the artists who create works with a political edge employ many different methods of creation to get their message across.

In Japan during the 1950s that message was generally “Go Home, G.I. Joe”, because the fact that there were U.S. military bases on Japan bothered and offended the Japanese people immensely, and with good reason.

But, in true Japanese style,  they didn’t express their derision with violence or massive demonstrations but rather with the written word and visual art.

One artist emerged from the 50s protest art scene as a true master of the visual arts, creating a surrealist-protest hybrid style all his own.

His name is Hiroshi Nakamura, and his unique style of protest art elevated his works to a level far beyond the politically charged norm.

For even though not everyone will understand Hiroshi's message today we can all appreciate the amazing surreal creativity found in each piece, and the masterful skill he used to create each mind blowing work.

A Font Designed To Show Readers What It Feels Like To Have Dyslexia

Dyslexia makes reading a real pain, so those who suffer with the condition have been hard at work creating fonts designed to help those with dyslexia improve their reading ability.

But this isn't one of those fonts designed to help the dyslexic, this font created by Daniel Britton is designed show those who don't have dyslexia what it's like to read when you have dyslexia.

Daniel's font makes reading this simple message a slow and cumbersome process, and he feels this font is a more realistic version of what letters look like when you have dyslexia:

For most people the letters and numbers do not jump around on the page and the colours remain the same, it is simply a break down in communication between they eye and the brain, for most people you can see the information, you can see perfectly each and every letter form but there is something in your mind that is stopping or slowing the process of information and for most this is Dyslexia.

There’s a lot of talk these days about how things used to be, how we lived before computers and the internet became integral parts of our lives and how the new generation compares to the old.

Here's What Happens When You Illegally Park In A Handicapped Spot In Brazil

Some people don’t see why it’s such a big deal when a non-handicapped person parks in a handicapped spot, but everyone else understands why these spots should be left open for those in need.

(Image Link)

So those who refuse to reserve those spots for the handicapped generally meet with some backlash from the general public. Sometimes they get a tongue lashing and other times something way more radical occurs.

(YouTube Link)

A group of Brazilians decided to creatively express their disdain for an illegal parker by covering his car with blue and white Post-It Notes, so he would think twice about parking in the blue zone ever again.

How To Jump Start A Car With AA Batteries

(Image Link)

It used to be common practice to ask people for a jump start when your battery died, but nowadays people usually just call roadside assistance and let them handle the process.

But if you’re one of those DIY minded people who like to know what your options are when it comes to jump starting a car battery then you should check out this video by Mehdi Sadaghdar for ElectroBOOM.

(YouTube Link)

Mehdi demonstrates how you can link a bunch of AA batteries together to jump start that dead battery, which may not be the most convenient method but it sure is neat to see how it's done!

Death Preps A Poor Soul For The Journey Ahead In "Coda"

(Image Link)

Death can be seen as a release from suffering, the point when your soul transition into an afterlife, or simply a fade to black.

The moment before death, however, is seen by nearly all as a time when you’re forced to reflect on life, thinking back on the person you’ve been and who you could have become.

(Vimeo Link)

That moment of death is the focus of this amazing animated short called “Coda”, by And Maps And Plans Studio as directed by Alan Holly. The art style is beautifully simplistic, the animation is top notch, and the story will truly sweep you away! (Contains cartoon nudity)

The Dark Side - Darth Doesn't Have A Good Side

The Dark Side by inkOne Art

When asked to give a profile of the powerful Sith Lord known as Vader, the Imperial scribe had this to say- "He has a lot of deep, dark stuff going on under that shiny helmet of his". The darkness that envelops Darth is blacker and inkier than the deepest depths of space, and although he's the star of the Empire's campaign of galactic subjugation he's got more than war on his mind. You can't force Vader to reveal his secrets, nor will he ever admit to being in a state of emotional turmoil, but if you know where he came from, and what turned him in to the wicked man he is today, it's easy to see why he walks on the dark side of life...

Bring home some seriously cool sci-fi flavor with this The Dark Side t-shirt by inkOne Art, it's the ultimate way to add some wicked attitude to your geeky wardrobe.

Incredible Sculptures Made Out Of Bubble Gum

Candy loving kids have been known to chew a pack of gum at a time, and if they have artistic inclinations they might turn that chewed up wad of gum into something shapely, like a small sculpture or sticky multi-colored ball.

But even Bazooka Joe himself couldn’t turn chewing gum into works of art as incredible as these pink bubblegum sculptures by Maurizio Savini.

The gum Maurizio uses in his works has not been chewed, it's unwrapped and melted into "layers of usable material" which is then applied to a plaster or fiberglass mold to help stabilize the sculpture's shape.

The Goofy Undercover Getups Worn By The Stasi In Eastern Europe

Pop culture tells us that spies are the most smartly dressed agents in the field, and they always look good whether they’re embroiled in a gunfight or disguised and deep undercover.

But the truth is many spies looked downright goofy when they went undercover, especially those who spied for the East German secret police and intelligence service, aka the Stasi.

It's said that East Germans could spot a Stasi agent a mile away thanks to their ridiculous outfits and terrible acting, and yet nobody dared say a thing lest they be dragged away and executed for causing trouble.

A book released by Simon Menner in 2013 called Top Secret: Images From The Stasi Archives reveals the Ostalgie inducing styles worn by undercover Stasi agents, who apparently believed the best way to avoid being pegged as a spy is to dress like a sterotypical spy.
