Every "Civilization" Game Ever

If you've never played a "civilization" game but you enjoy games like SimCity, Roller Coaster Tycoon or The Sims then I encourage you to check out one of the original Sid Meier's Civilization games and see what you think about building an empire from scratch.

But, as this Arcade Rage comic shows, you should know you're gonna wait for hours for units, resources and structures to be built- until your carefully constructed kingdom is destroyed by invading armies in mere minutes. But then you get to start all over again so...yay?

This House Takes 6 Hours To Build And Costs Just $33K

The world's housing crisis is unlikely to be solved by building more of the same old brick or sheet metal houses, nor will it be solved by selling homes that are just a bit cheaper than average.

No, the only way the housing crisis will be solved is by coming up with clever ways to easily construct a solid wooden home that's up to snuff on the cheap, which is why the M.A.Di. home seems like a step in the right direction:

Italian Renato Vidal has created a brilliant alternative to traditional housing. The M.A.Di. is a flat pack folding home that costs only $33K and three people can assemble it in any flat location in about 6 hours.

The building is certified as seismically safe and created with high-quality material. It comes in a variety of sizes, ranging from a 290-square-foot home for $33K to a 904-square-foot design for $73K. All basic models include a bathroom with sanitary facilities, kitchen connections, one stage staircase and technical installations.

Once on site, M.A.Di. can even be constructed without a concrete foundation. The structures can be assembled to go completely off-grid with the addition of solar panels, grey water systems, and LED lighting.

The M.A.Di. home ain't too shabby lookin' neither, and although $33k is still out of some people's price range the concept is solid and could be just the change we need to make affordable housing available for all. Here's a time-lapse video of the M.A.Di. home being built:

Capitalism And Piracy

Piracy was a completely different concept before the internet, because back in the day media pirates had to actually get their hands on original copies of the movies, albums and games they intended to bootleg.

But now you can just pluck media off the web and share, burn and sell it without having ever seen a physical copy of it, making the official sellers of the media feel like they're trying to sell apples in an apple orchard.

But try as hard as they might to cut down every tree and keep all the apples for themselves the official sellers can't stop the trees from growing... (Comic by JDrift01)

Basically Every MMO Ever

MMOs come in all kinds of different play styles, genres and artistic looks for the character designs but they all seem to have two things in common- too many dungeons that require a group and too few female players.

This lack of a female presence makes the male gamer masses go crazy every time they think another player is a girl, which makes the game annoying for females to play and therefore continues the cycle of male domination in MMOs.

So if you're like me and feel MMOs could use more female players then please encourage your buddies to stop acting the fool when they encounter a girl in game, because MMOs could use some new blood and a fresh female perspective! (Comic by Rustled Jimmies)

Cartoon Network Artist Draws Strange Comics For People With A Strange Sense Of Humor

Some comic strips make a little too much sense, with observations that hit the nail right on the head and give us those "that's what I was thinking!" moments, but sometimes a straight up silly comic is just what we need to unwind.

And no comic serves up simple silliness and radical ridiculousness quite like Nathan Bulmer's strip Eat More Bikes, because Nathan leaves the astute observational humor to the astuter observers and just points out the obvious.

Nathan has worked for Dreamworks, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network so you know his drawing skills are tight, but he doesn't need tight skills to create Eat More Bikes, he just needs to keep coming up with silly jokes that blow us away.

Watch Epic NPC Man Season By Season With These Supercuts

The web series NPC Man has been showing us how strange the world of video games can be for quite some time now, and since there are five seasons of the series it's easy to miss an episode or two, even though each episode is less than five minutes long.

(YouTube Link)

But Viva La Dirt League, the creators of Epic NPC Man, don't expect their audience to jump through hoops and go on long and agonizing quests to find every episode- they'd rather serve up some full season supercuts so you can watch it all with ease!

(YouTube Link)

I've presented the first and fifth season supercuts here for your enjoyment, and if you like the series head to their YouTube channel to watch the rest. It's well worth the price of admission!

The Passenger

Passengers expect to ride in comfort when they take the train, especially when it's going to be a long trip, but they also expect other passengers and attendants to make the trip a bit less than peaceful.

But should you ever take a railroad trip and discover yourself all alone on the train save a lone attendant you may want to consider getting off at the next station- or you may be in for a long, strange trip of self exploration...

The Passenger is a stylish and poignant animated short created by students at ESMA, the Ecole Supérieure des Métiers Artistiques, which strangely made me want to take a trip by train again.

The Time When Dolly Parton Posed For Playboy

Dolly Parton is a country music legend, theme park owner and one of the most beautiful people on the planet, but above all she's a strong, independent woman with loads of integrity who refuses to compromise her values for money.

Which is why people were surprised to see her on the cover of the October 1978 issue of Playboy, and the hopeful who bought the issue discovered to their dismay that Dolly did not appear nude in the mag.

Instead she posed in a Playboy Bunny outfit with a lecherous Easter Bunny lurking behind her, which presumably did not tittilate readers as much as make them laugh about the bunny and cry about the lack of nudity.

This is what Dolly had to say about the experience during an interview with Lawrence Grobel back in 1978:

I got kind of scared when I thought they wanted me to do something … I didn’t want to be naked on the front of a magazine unless everybody would know it was a joke. I wouldn’t want to be naked even then.

That's One Way To Get People To Go To Your Tea Party

When my sister was a kid she used to have a hard time finding real life friends to come to her tea party so she would sit down with her stuffed animals and the cat, which was a good enough guest list for her most of the time.

My dad and I were available if she insisted on having a human at her tea party so she never had to use the Dark Arts to summon guests, which was lucky for us because brimstone stains are really hard to get out of the carpet! (Comic by War And Peas)

The Updated Riddle Of The Sphinx

The riddle of the sphinx used to be a riddle for the ages, one which a person from any era in history could answer, but it appears even mythical creatures have bowed to the pressure and updated their question for the 21st century.

Somehow this has made the sphinx's riddle even harder to answer, because his new question has many answers yet no real answer at all.

Cyanide And Happiness Presents "Green Light"

It always makes me feel weird when people say "someone up there is looking out for you" because I never know who they're talking about and I'm afraid to ask because I don't know if they're religious or not and I don't want to start a whole thing.

But if they're not talking about God then who is "up there" and why is he or she "looking out for you"? That's a fair question, right? I mean, what are they getting out of the deal?

This Cyanide and Happiness comic come to life has an explanation, but you're probably not going to like it...

Man Is Reunited With His Car 20 Years After Forgetting Where He Parked It

(Image Link)

Have you ever lost your car in a parking lot and felt like you were losing your mind?

You probably wandered around for no more than fifteen or twenty minutes before locating your car and having that rush of relief wash over you as you realize you're not crazy after all- you're just a little forgetful.

Now imagine how forgetful you'd have to be to completely forget where you parked your car and thereby "lose" it for twenty long years.

(Image Link)

Yeah, I can't imagine it either, but there's a guy in Frankfurt who can, and after losing his Volkswagen Passat in a parking lot in 1997, assuming it had been stolen, he was reunited with it after police found it parked right where he'd left it:

Authorities in Frankfurt, Germany found the car parked in a garage building. The reason why the car suddenly became conspicuous after being parked there for so long is that the building is now set for demolition.

At the time, the owner of the car phoned the authorities to report the car missing. After the car was found, police drove the now 76-year-old owner to be reunited with the Volkswagen Passat. However, after 20 years of inactivity in the garage, the car was deemed unfit to drive.

When he lost the car, the man thought that he had searched for the car extensively and figured that it had been stolen. However, police said that it was just hidden from view and was in the exact spot where he had left it 20 years prior.

He must have had a spare car in his garage for just such an occasion.

Stress Test

Thanks to inventors like Humphrey Davy, Nikola Tesla and Joseph Swan, and people like Thomas Edison who ripped off inventors like Tesla, Davy and Swan, we're able to use electricity and light bulbs to light our homes.

And thanks to crippling student loan debt many young adults are so stressed out they're able to power the newly invented stress powered light bulb better than any Baby Boomer ever could.

And thanks to this Mr. Lovenstein comic we now know that one extremely stressed out Millennial is enough to light an entire continent, that is, until the poor young person dies of a stress-induced heart attack...anybody else out there owe so much student loan money it's sad?

How To Take Kids To A Restaurant

I've said it before and I'll say it again- I really appreciate Jordan Watson, creator of the How To Dad series, because he's great at dadding and great at explaining how to dad in a way that works for me.

I'm not a very experienced dad so I have no idea how to handle taking kids to a restaurant but the dude from How To Dad does, and both his different dad styles and his rules are golden.

The 'Woah' Dad and 'She'll Be Right' Dad styles present a perfect balance to parenting, and Jordan's rules about farting are just good rules in general when eating at a restaurant, even if it's just McDonald's.

Now in a year or three when my wife and I are actually able to leave our house and eat at restaurants again I'll know what to do with my little man.

MYAWW - A Kitten Can Melt Even The Coldest Of Hearts

MYAWW by Harebrained Design

People think Skeletor is a heartless bastard based on the fact that he's constantly plotting ways to take over Eternia and because he has no meat on his face, but deep inside that super buff blue body beats the heart of a lover. And a lover spurned tends to do bad things because their heart hurts, so the best way to defeat Skeletor isn't with swords, sorcery or laser blasts but rather with something that'll melt his heart- like a little kitten. It's just too bad that Skeletor's bad vibes ended up rubbing off on poor little Panthor, or else the two of them could have spread love throughout Eternia instead of bitterness and hatred...

Show the world that Skeletor has a loveable side with this MYAWW t-shirt by Harebrained Design, it's the kawaii way to spread grins wherever you go!
