Pink Puff In Outer Space - Kirby Is A Star

Pink Puff in Outer Space by nextodie

Do you ever wonder what you're looking at when you see a colorful streak soar across the night sky? I like to imagine the streak is created by an alien spacecraft, one which doesn't dare come to Earth for fear of being destroyed by the ignorant masses, and inside that spacecraft is a cute little alien pilot hungry for adventure. His name is Kirby, which is a perfectly appropriate name for both humans and aliens, and he's one of the toughest warriors in the universe despite the fact that he looks like a piece of bubble gum. Kirby wants to come see us, and knows he'll probably meet a few friends on Earth, but he knows humanity isn't ready to receive him yet so he stays high in the sky until that fateful day.

Add a streak of geeky color to your wardrobe with this Pink Puff in Outer Space t-shirt by Nextodie, it's the adorable way to get people looking for their favorite video game puffball among the stars!

Turkey Breaks Up Fight Between Roosters

Roosters walk around so smug and cocksure they make the other farm animals believe they're invincible, but the turkeys know the truth about rooster pride- it's all a bunch of hot air and puffed up cape feathers.

The truth is most roosters are scared of their own shadows, and one turkey is worth ten roosters in the battle of the birds.

Dennis Coon filmed this feathery kerfuffle to show viewers how Mr. Turkey keeps the peace and maintains his rep as the meatiest bird in the yard!

Do Japanese People Understand The English Words Written On Their T-Shirts?

The idea of (mostly Japanese) people wearing t-shirts that say something ridiculous in English, which the wearer doesn't seem to understand, leaves the internet community tickled pink.

We assume the people in the pics have no idea what their shirt says, which leaves us ROFLing hard when their shirt says something like "I'm about to let one rip" or "NAKED", but are we wrong? Do they actually know what their shirt says? Let's find out!

(YouTube Link)

This video from Fuji Television shared by NeKo JGT shows that many Japanese people wear tees with English words on them because they look cool and not because they know, or care, what the tee actually says.

So English tees are basically the equivalent of those Chinese character tattoos people love to get without actually knowing what they mean, only the tees can be easily removed...

Beware The Ides Of March...But Why?

Shakesepeare put the idea of the Ides of March into our heads with his play Julius Caesar, leading some people to believe the days of mid-March are somehow cursed, since Julius Caesar was murdered by his senators on March 15, 44 AD.

But Ides were originally seen as positive dates, representing the first full moon of a given month, and the Ides of March once signified the New Year, a time to celebrate the coming of spring.

So how did the Ides of March come to be seen as a bad thing?

Ironically, the trend may have begun with Julius Caesar, who changed the New Year celebration from March 15th to January, and ever since bad things have happened to powerful people around the Ides of March...

Vince Gilligan Explains That Unsliced Roof Pizza In Breaking Bad

Fans have been arguing about the meaning behind the scene in Breaking Bad where Walt throws a whole, unsliced pizza onto his roof since the show started, thinking there's some hidden symbolism behind the act.

(YouTube Link)

But show creator Vince Gilligan recently explained the significance of this scene during a Reddit AMA, and it turns out the arguments were all for naught- because the pizza was kept whole simply for the sake of throwability.

one fan asked, "Was Badger and Skinny Pete's conversation at Jesse's party about the pizzas not being sliced written in after the fact to explain how Walters pizza landed on the roof intact? Everyone knows a sliced pizza would have come apart."

As creator Vince Gilligan says of the unsliced pizza, it had to do with continuity and physics:

Yes! We had a long discussion before we shot the pizza on the roof scene about whether or not the pizza should be sliced—because, as all you physicists know, a thrown, sliced pizza would come apart due to centrifugal force or angular momentum (or something like that). And yet, you're right: no self-respecting pizza parlor sells an unsliced pizza. So we figured we needed to explain it (in the "They pass the savings on to you" scene), or else face our audience's righteous wrath!

Artist Turns Heartbreaking Breakup Texts Into Banners

Most people don't feel like partying after a breakup, and suicide is never a reason for celebration, but those who are able to move past the sadness and live to love another day find life is full of reasons to celebrate.

And even though they feel like they'll never smile again the formerly heartbroken often look back at what they thought, said and wrote during that dark time and have a good laugh about it all.

A post shared by PEYTON (@peytonfulford) on Feb 14, 2017 at 10:06am PST

Photographer Peyton Fulford takes sad submissions and creates banners from snippets of the submitted breakup texts, "It's not you, it's me" letters and the occasional unused suicide note.

She then strings the banner up in interesting locations and takes a pic, turning the words into an emotional detail in an environment devoid of life.

The Terrible State Approved Vocal-Instrumental Ensembles Of The USSR

The Kremlin wasn't big on personal freedoms, and while people across the globe were enjoying the great music that came out in the 60s, 70s and 80s people in the USSR were stuck listening to these bland bands.

(YouTube Link)

The Soviet state had strict rules in place to battle the aspects of Western society they considered decadent and reprehensibly capitalist, and popular music was one of the Kremlin's main enemies.

They banned the sale, play and ownership of many Western groups including KISS, Pink Floyd and the Village People, so the people were stuck listening to Disco Pop created by Vocal Instrumental Ensembles.

(YouTube Link)

The Vocal Instrumental Ensembles, or VIAs, were state approved musical acts, and their music was overseen by "artistic directors" (political commissars) to ensure compliance with the state's ideology.

VIAs provided a sanctioned alternative to the state’s more overtly propagandistic efforts to cultivate and win over a new generation of Soviet youth. In the absence of broadly disseminated alternatives, VIAs were hugely popular, selling millions of albums and becoming the de facto soundtrack to late socialism.

The VIAs were monitored by political commissars (euphemistically called "artistic directors") who monitored their sound and appearance to ensure that it stayed within the bounds set by the state's ideological bosses.

Things You May Not Know About Geena Davis

Geena Davis is one of the most talented and dynamic actresses in Hollywood, and her career has taken her from hanging out with Tootsie in the 80s to her recent appearance as Reagan on The Exorcist TV series.

But acting isn't the most important thing in Geena's life, and unlike the hungry Hollywood crowd that surrounds her Geena has much more important things to do with her life than simply being a star:

20. I run a film festival every May in Bentonville, Arkansas, called BFF. It was created to champion women and diverse voices in film and other media.

23. I’m a special envoy for Women and Girls in Information & Communication Technologies to the U.N.’s International Telecommunication Union.

24. I have a research institute, seejane.org, that advocates for more and better female characters in kids’ TV and movies.

Geena also has many talents you don't see on the screen:

18. I can move my eyes independently.

19. I can also wiggle my ears one at a time.

22. I am an expert pumpkin carver.

25. I can write backward with my left hand while I write forward with my right hand. I can also write upside down just as fast as I can normally write.

These Indian Runner Ducks Are Late For Work

If you think the rat race is cutthroat and mile-a-minute then you clearly haven't been caught in cross mallard traffic during rush hour, when ducks don't give a quack about anything but gettin' to work on time.

(YouTube Link)

These ducks know they're lucky to be gainfully employed, so they rush off as a flock every day to get to work in the Vergenoegd Wine Estate, where they have an important job to do- eating the snails off the vines.

Chef Wears Raw Ingredients From His Menu On His Face For Creepy Portraits

Chefs who only serve raw and organic ingredients in their restaurants go out of their way to advertise that fact, turning their fresh food philosophy into a branding element.

They call their eatery something cute like "Organically Yours", put images of fresh fruits, veg and grain on all their advertising and include a long list of things their dishes are free of, such as hormones or gluten.

But chef Robbie Postma is an odd duck, so he skipped all the cheesy name games and went straight for the shock factor, posing for portraits while covered in raw ingredients from his kitchen.

MENU is a deliciously bizarre photo project created by Postma and photographer Robert Harrison, and these photos are so much more than just pics of some guy with food all over his face:

When creating these images, Postma and Harrison stuck to the same principles and values a chef would when creating a menu: paying a lot of attention to the details, the composition, the preparation and of course the ingredients. From cutlery to coffee bean, every component is painstakingly prepared to produce the ultimate effect. And every grain of rice was added by hand, without the aid of digital manipulation. MENU is hand crafted. Just like the best food.
