Anybody who commits an armed robbery is either desperate, strung out or crazy, or a combination of the three, so they're usually not thinking straight when they move in with their guns drawn.

But the two men who tried to rob a McDonald's restaurant in Besançon, France had their head on straighter than most, and they would have walked away with over $2k from the till had luck been on their side.

But, unbeknownst to them as they fired warning shots into the air and took the till for all it had, 11 of the 40 people in the restaurant were French special forces officers, from the "Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale, or GIGN - the Gallic equivalent of the SAS".

Needless to say these special forces officers weren't about to let those two punks get away with their brazen crime, so they waited for their chance to spring into action:

Edwige Roux-Morizot, the local prosecutor, said: “During the hold-up, the gendarmes didn’t do anything. It was out of the question to use their weapons, as this would have created difficulties and could have placed many people’s lives in danger.”

The highly trained and battle-hardened officers were able to pounce on the first of the two robbers when he tripped on his way of the outlet without firing a shot.

However, they were forced to shoot the other in the abdomen when he pointed a gun at them as he sought to make his getaway with the cash, ignoring their orders to drop his weapon. 

The two robbers, both in their early 20s and from the local Mombéliard area, were taken to Besancon hospital for treatment.

There's a common misconception that hunters who work in the whaling industry are coldhearted killers who derive a sadistic pleasure from taking down those giants of the sea.

But they must have felt guilty about their actions at some point in their lives, since it's so very human to care despite our desire to drown our emotions .

Some go a bit mad, others quit the biz or take out their anger and frustration on the whales, but the guy in this animated has a sinister way of dealing with his emotions- he keeps his heart in a box.

Whale Heart was created by 3rd year animation students from The Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark, and I really dig both the morbid theme and stop motion/practical look of the CGI textures.

Keeping your workshop or studio clean and organized helps your builds go faster and makes your life as a maker go much more smoothly, because wasting time searching for tools or supplies can be frustrating.

But keeping the right stock of supplies around can be just as important as an organized space, and you'd be surprised how useful things like rubber bands, whisks, foam pool noodles and magnets can be in your shop.

Glue a magnet to the bottom of your hammer and you'll never lose those nails again. Foam pool noodles can be cut into segments and sliced to make some cheap yet durable paint brush holders.

Rubber bands have a million uses in the shop, they can even be used to remove stripped screws, and a whisk can be used to mix concrete, plaster or pretty much any dry mix in a pinch.

The now defunct and destroyed Nara Dreamland was built as a Japanese version of Disneyland in 1961, a lofty endeavor launched by Kunizu Matsuo who later helped Disney build Tokyo Disneyland.

But Nara Dreamland didn't have a cast of franchise characters to populate the park, and even though much of the park was built to look virtually identical to Anaheim Disneyland the park never had the same pull.

And when the real Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983 people stopped going to the imitation, which led to a steady decline until Tokyo DisneySea and Universal Studios Japan opened in 2001 and killed Kunizu's dream.

The park was abandoned in 2006 and demolished in 2016, but before it disappeared photographer Romain Veillon took a look around and shot some eerie photos that show what the death of a theme park dream looks like.

Most people think we become desensitized when we watch too many violent movies and TV shows or play too many violent video games, using shocking acts of violence in the news to prove their theory.

But if that's true then why do I still get super upset when an animal is killed in a show even though I've seen those ASPCA commercials a million times? And why do I feel so guilty when a video game requires me to slaughter scores of innocent virtual animals?
