Michelle Curtis of New Zealand has a very prized cat for a pet. Her cat, Buddy, is Siamese-Bengal.

Buddy went missing for a few days. When he was returned Michelle was horrified to find out that neighbors had neutered poor Buddy.  Apparently one neighbor trapped the cat and another neighbor paid to have the cat fixed. The neighbors claim that they thought the cat was a stray who went around beating up other neighborhood cats.

Ms Curtis, a former cat breeder, said she had owned Buddy for almost two years and until last weekend had intended using him as a stud cat.

Dr. Keith Swanson of Atlantic, Iowa was going to retire and work for free over seas. Instead his wife talked him into opening a "donations only" clinic. This way he could do his charity work right in his home town. To cover his expenses his wife made a donation box. It's a simple shoe box covered in red tape. There is slit on the top where people can place donations. The average donation is about $10.

Swanson said he has no plans to quit what he's doing any time soon.

"I always tell people, the last day -- if I walk down the hall and die, you'll know I'm not going to be here tomorrow."

The Orange County Zoo in California has a new and unexpected attraction. A wild bald eagle has moved into a tree above the cage of the zoo's captive bald eagle Olivia.

Bald eagles are spotted from time to time in the rolling foothills, oaks and sycamores surrounding the zoo, but never before has one taken such an interest in a zoo resident. Olivia is kept at the zoo because an eye injury prevents her from being released back into the wild.

Many are speculating that love is in the air. The wild bald eagle and Olivia have been caught  squawking at each other.

Baby Bob is an adorable orangutan at the Greenville Zoo in South Carolina. As part of his birthday celebration they thought it would be fun to have him predict the winner of the Super Bowl.

He was offered T-shirts for both teams, and chose the Packers’ shirt.

The executive director of the zoo is hoping he is wrong and is himself rooting for the Steelers.

We will find out Sunday if Baby Bob is as good an oracle as our dearly departed octopus friend. Rest in peace little Paul.

Ambam the gorilla stands upright and walks like a man.  Ambam is a 21-year-old silverback male gorilla.  He lives at Kent animal park in Britain. You may have already seen this handsome fellow as he has quickly become an internet sensation.

The Polk County Library system in Florida has introduced library vending machines. The machines are placed in areas where there is no local library. People can go to the machine, swipe their library card and check out  a book.

The machines are similar to Red Box movie rental machines. One of the machines has DVDs in it, and the other has best selling books.

The city of Lakeland, Florida is clucking mad over its feral chicken problem. Squeal Deal Animal Control has been called in to rescue the residents from the more than 600 free roaming chickens. The problem is chicken chasing is no easy task.

The chickens are pretty smart and fast so they are hard to catch, according to some of the chasers.

“The chickens, this is their woods," chicken chaser Clayton Keene said. "They go underneath houses and cars and in trees. They know where to escape from you."

What happens to the chickens once they are caught?

Some will be donated to schools for agriculture projects and others may be donated to charity organizations so they can be used for food.

At the Clubhouse in Dallas, a manager who declined to give his name told the Daily News that he is expecting increased traffic and is willing to hire additional women who come in - but doesn't have a blank check for new employees.

Fire Chief James Allen is used to saving lives.  What he isn't used to is being ticketed by state police while trying to be of aid in an emergency. James  received a  ticket on Wednesday for blocking the right lane of traffic.  He was in his department vehicle and was responding to a serious accident.

"He stopped me from going to take care of the patient and asked me for license and registration," Allen told PIX 11 News. " I immediately gave him my license out of my pocket went and took care of the patient."

The woman in this car was seriously injured. Her vehicle was in the center lane of the parkway, the same lane the trooper stopped in.
