I feed a family of three, and I spend about $200 a month on groceries. And I'm not even trying to pinch pennies on food, any more than I always have. Since we are all female, I don't buy much meat. No soda pop. But we seem to eat well.
To buy into this thinking, you have to assume that you will be making mortgage payments forever. I paid my first house off in ten years, and I can assure you that it is REAL NICE to have no housing payment at all.
But as a landlady, I have to say that renting is wonderful, and I know a nice house in Kentucky that you can live in for a great price!
