Presidential Grandson

John Tyler {wiki} was the tenth president of the United States, serving in office from 1841 to 1845. In 1853, at age 63, he fathered a son named Lyon Tyler. At age 75, Lyon Tyler fathered Harrison Tyler {wiki}, who was born in 1928. Therefore, the grandson of a US president born in 1790 is still alive today. Bob Peck contributed this fact to a presidential trivia contest at mental_floss and won a book about US presidents. See, sometimes it pays to know trivia! Link

World War II-Themed Wedding

Jo Rowell and Tony Cox of Hartlepool, England were married recently in style -1940s style!
A blackout marked the beginning of the ceremony and the silence was broken by the sounds of Neville Chamberlain announcing war on Germany.

The ceremony also included the sounds of sirens and Lancaster bombers flying overhead.

Spotlights lit up a trench scene in Normandy complete with a silhouette of an American soldier going over the top and glider planes above.

Jo then made an entrance to the sound of Glenn Miller's Moonlight Serenade and the touching ceremony went off without a hitch.

Lollipops

Artist Craig Robinson began making this type of illustration as advertising for a British music magazine years ago. He now exhibits a collection of them. See if you can guess the bands represented by these Lollipops. If you can’t, mouseover the images for the name. The Lollipops shown here should be pretty easy. Link -via the Presurfer

ZIPskinny

Enter your zip code in the application ZIPskinny and find information from the 2000 census report. I found some odd facts about the people in my zip code. Only 3.5% are unemployed, yet 22.5% are below the poverty level. 13.3% percent have a college degree, and 60% are married, which puts me in the minority on both counts. http://zipskinny.com/ -via Big Shot Bob in Texas

Japanese Jumping Frog Robot

Robotics engineers at the University of Tokyo have designed a robot that jumps like a frog. And looks like one! The robot, named Mowgli, can also kick a soccer ball. The point is a study of musculature and kinetics, but the end result is quite cool. Gizmodo has the video. Link
