Pringles, though the company doesn't call them potato chips, always tasted like potato chips, even when they sprouted flavors like barbecue and pizza. But now they are releasing three limited-edition holiday flavors that seem quite contrary to the taste of potatoes: Pumpkin Pie Spice, White Chocolate Peppermint, and Cinnamon & Sugar. You should see them in stores November first. Please let us know if you have the courage to try them out. Link

John Cozzoli has collected over 500 movie artifacts, mostly relating to "lesser-known horror movies of the 20th century." Collectors Weekly talked to Cozzoli about his wonderful but obscure set of ephemera.
Primarily devoted to Mexican lobby cards, or small placards displayed in theater entrances to advertise upcoming films, and American pressbooks, which provided promotional guides for theater owners, Cozzoli has curated an extensive array of cult-classics on his blog, Zombos’ Closet. Spanish-language lobby cards specifically piqued his interest because of their exaggerated details and wild graphics, unrestricted by more prudish American guidelines.
Cozzoli’s dream is to preserve these campy bits of horror film history, particularly items made during the golden era, which lasted from the 1940s through the ’60s. In the process, he’s created a virtual haunted house of zany, lurid, and sometimes downright disgusting marketing materials.
You can see some of those wild lobby cards when you read the interview. Link
Have you been keeping up with the Neatorama Halloween blog? I've been checking it every day, and I may have to go more often, because there is a ton of Halloween stuff posted! Recipes for Halloween treats both spookily artistic and simple for family projects, plenty of Halloween costumes to admire or emulate, and then there's the fun "other" stuff. I grabbed pictures from a list of American monsters, a child dressed as a shark, and a dancing pumpkin dude. Check them all out at the Neatorama Halloween blog. Link
Yeah, the creatures are mythical and these stories are from real life -but that doesn't mean the creatures that were found were what they were reported to be. These fairly modern accounts from various sources are either hoaxes for laughs or money, or mistakes made by frightened people. Read about found fairies, dragons, leprechauns, mermaids, and more at Ranker. Shown here is a man posing with the skull of an ancient cyclops. Link
Here it is, our collaboration with the always amusing What Is It? Blog! Tell us what this object is, if you know. If you don't, make a wild guess!
Place your guess in the comment section below. One guess per comment, please, though you can enter as many as you'd like. Post no URLs or weblinks, as doing so will forfeit your entry. We'll have two winners: the first correct guess and the funniest (albeit ultimately wrong) guess will win T-shirt from the NeatoShop.
Please write your T-shirt selection alongside your guess. If you don't include a selection, you forfeit the prize, okay? May we suggest the Science T-Shirt, Funny T-Shirt and Artist-Designed T-Shirts?
There is another picture of this thing from a different angle at the What Is It? Blog. Have fun and good luck!
Update: the pictured item is an ink well, the antlers could have been used to hold several pens. THe first person with the right answer was Craig Clayton, who wins a t-shirt from the NeatoShop! Even he had to make a few guesses before he got it right. The prize for the funniest answer goes to FuzzySpork, who said, "Behold, the Holy Door-Ringer of Antioch! Ask not for whom the bell tolls, the door is for thee." That deserves a t-shirt, too! Congratulations to our winners, and thanks to everyone who played along. See more pictures of this inkwell and the answers to all this week's mystery items at the What Is It? blog.
Fire whirls or fire tornados are caused when fire combines with the right wind conditions to create a swirling vortex of flame -scary, but beautiful from a safe distance. Kuriositas has more about fire whirls and many beautiful pictures of this phenomena from all over the world. Link

To celebrate the release of the 1962 film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? on Blu-Ray, and of course, the horror film season leading up to Halloween, Flavorwire composed a list of the scariest crazy old women in movie history. Actresses can make these characters pretty scary, but add to that our unresolved conflicts with mothers and grandmothers combined with the difficulty of watching them decline with age -and you've got some truly frightening movie concepts. See the best of them at Flavorwire. Link

Last year, Kaylee Dedrick was pepper-sprayed by police at the Occupy Wall Street demonstration in New York City. Robert Grodt stepped up to treat her face and …they fell in love. A year later, the two welcomed 7-pound Tegan Kathleen Grodt into the world.
The Zuccotti lovers became an item shortly after Dedrick was doused in the face with pepper spray by Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna while being held-up in the NYPD’s orange netting -- an incident that she is in the process of suing the city over.
Afterward, the young woman was treated by Grodt, a Southern Californian who hitchhiked to be a part of the movement. He nursed his wife-to-be back to health and into his heart among the encampments.
"Nothing strengthens a relationship like a chemical agent," Grodt told The Daily News earlier this week.
As a memento for their hard days fighting for the 99 percent, OWS Screen Guild sent the newly-minted parents a white onesie with “Occupy Wall Street” printed in fat orange letters.
The media couldn't resist dubbing Tegan "Occubaby." She was born on September 28th. Link -via Salon

There's always someone who will find a creative way to make money off new technology. Airplanes proved to be wonderful for transportation and for waging war, but barnstormers saw their entertainment value, too. Performers walked around outside their planes, jumped from plane to plane, and came up with new stunts to please crowds. But wing-walking is one place you don't learn from your mistakes, because you often don't survive them. So many of these performers died that federal safety restrictions were put into place, and the shows all but died out. All that is left of that era are the photographs, many of which are in the post at Environmental Graffiti. Link

Neil Fraser made this Portal Pumpkin to guard his home for Halloween 2010. You can peek inside at the mechanism that made it move and scare the living daylights out of trick-or-treaters.
Perched precariously on its three legs, the turret automatically pans left and right and pitches up and down searching for targets. Inside is a small motor and a system of gears and cams to drive the gun mounts.
He said it was like building a ship in a bottle- "A wet, slimy bottle." Link -via reddit
This past Saturday, the University of South Carolina beat Georgia, but the football game will be remembered for something completely different. A message from Sergeant First Class Scott Faile, stationed in South Korea, was relayed to his South Carolina wife and kids via the stadium's giant video screen. The sound on the video is not great, but I'm sure you can follow what happens. You might want to grab a hankie. -via Blame It On The Voices
