This vintage picture has been making the rounds of the internet in the past couple of days, but it was first posted three years ago by redditor jordanofthehill. His grandfather raised the animals from infancy and as they never had to catch their own food, it never occurred to the lion and the bear that lunch was walking between them. As a further example, here is a picture of jordanofthehill's father as a young boy. Link

The a cappella group Pentatonix gives us examples of popular music through the ages. As you'd expect, there are more examples from each time period as they get closer to the present. These guys are pretty good! (via Tastefully Offensive)
The Norwegian comedy group (and TV show) Kollektivet, which brought us ÆØÅ (Size Matters), are back. The premise here is that they are fighting a fascist government cultural ministry by creating a new pop song. To do that, they pull out all the sure-fire tropes that go into a hit song, with the result being a very generic but catchy tune that cannot help but become a smash hit. Would you be able to pass this test? CRAPCHA is an acronym for Completely Ridiculous And Phony Captcha that Hassles for Amusement. It is a parody of the annoying CAPTCHA codes that try to verify that you are not a bot. As the bots became more sophisticated, so did the CAPTCHAs, until some of them are impossible for humans to decipher. CRAPCHA takes this to the next level, with characters that are impossible to reproduce. You can embed the application on your website, if you really want to make readers angry. Like this:

Ben Marks of Collectors Weekly talked with Francis Boyd, who makes and repairs swords and teaches his craft to others. His shop has swords that are thousands of years old, and each has a story to tell -not necessarily a good story.
“When I got this sword, it was completely covered in blood rust.” Sword maker Francis Boyd is showing me yet another weapon pulled from yet another safe in the heavily fortified workshop behind his northern California home.
“You can tell it’s blood,” he says matter-of-factly, “because ordinary rust turns the grinding water brown. If it’s blood rust it bleeds, it looks like blood in the water. Even 2,000 years old, it bleeds. And it smells like a steak cooking, like cooked meat. I’ve encountered this before with Japanese swords from World War II. If there’s blood on the sword and you start polishing it, the sword bleeds. It comes with the territory.”
Blood rust: I hadn’t thought of that. I guess it would turn water red, but the steak comment is kind of creeping me out, as is the growing realization that if these swords could talk, I couldn’t stomach half the tales they’d have to tell.
Boyd has the lowdown on how such ancient swords were made, and how the process has changed over time. It's a great read, whether you into weaponry or not, because of his extensive knowledge and care for the historical artifacts. Link
This fascinating flowchart by Mr. Dalliard contains many time travel movies sorted by plot twists and temporal philosophy, color coded by genre, and has spoilers that you probably won't understand if you haven't seen the movie anyway. Remakes and originals are labeled by year. You can enlarge the chart by clicking on it at the site. Link -via Buzzfeed
While you're watching a life-and-death moment on a police drama, suddenly they'll announce some clue found on FaceUnion, which breaks your suspension of disbelief and makes you giggle. Slackstory, which constantly cranks out supercuts, recently did one on fake websites on TV. However, there is one TV series that racked up more fake internet sites than all of the others. Law & Oder: SVU dramatizes stories of sex crimes and child abuse, which often involve evidence gleaned from the internet. It and its sibling shows under the Law & Order umbrella have named so many fake websites that Slackstory made a supercut of fake websites dedicated to those shows alone. -Thanks, Nick!
Thirty freestyle athletes hold hands, ski, and do a backflip, mostly at the same time. How this happened without anyone breaking something, I can't understand. The friends pulled this off yesterday at Mont Saint-Sauveur in Quebec. See more pictures of the stunt at imgur. Read more about it at reddit. Link -Thanks, Terrence!

During a high-stakes bridge tournament preceded by a sit-down dinner, Jay, Jennifer, Jeff, and John played together. At the end of the night, all four had more cash than when they had arrived. In other words, none of them lost, although they were playing for money. How could this be?
