Self-Sustainable Chair, a dress made out of polyethylene, connected to shoes that pump air into an inflatable bubble attached to its rear part on each step. The dress slowly transforms into a chair with each step and holds the person to sit on it naturally. With his or her body weight the chair is slowly deflated and forms back to the original flat dress. Self-Sustainable chair is a conceptual garment that motivates users to consistently switch between walking and sitting as a loop behavior on the street. The balance between exercise and rest would be maintained by wearing this suit. The purpose of this project is to transform the humdrum experiences produced by routine walking commutes into an amusing interactive performance.

A look at the future, as predicted in the past. Or maybe, a look at what the present would have been like if the predictions of the past came to pass. Anyway way you look at it, the future ain’t what it used to be!

Assuming that we dodged the 1984, Brave New World bullet, our future was supposed to be a sort of technocratic, atomic-powered, computer-controlled, antiseptic, space-travelling Jerusalem that would at last free us from the curse of Eden and original sin. We expected some how, some way that we would be on the road to being freed from the human condition. We expected a sort of bloodless, benign French Revolution with Hugo Gernsback as our Voltaire and Carl Sagan as our Robespierre. And what did we get? The City of Man with Tivo. The fact is, science fiction and popular science had set the bar so high that only the Second Coming with ray guns would have satisfied.

Got a calendar? Circle this date: Sunday, August 12th. Next to the circle write "all night" and "Meteors!" Attach the above to your refrigerator in plain view so you won't miss the 2007 Perseid meteor shower.
"It's going to be a great show," says Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office at the Marshall Space Flight Center. "The Moon is new on August 12th--which means no moonlight, dark skies and plenty of meteors." How many? Cooke estimates one or two Perseids per minute at the shower's peak.
The annual Perseid meteor shower is caused by the tail of Comet Swift-Tuttle intersecting Earth’s orbit. For the best view, go somewhere away from city lights. And if you stay up late enough, you’ll get a good view of Mars rising the same night! Link -via J-Walk Blog

A fuel truck delivered 397 gallons of oil to the home of Nyoka Young in New Windsor, New York. The problem was that Young did not order the oil, and in fact has no oil tank. She was not home at the time, so the delivery man pumped the oil into a nonworking fill pipe from a previous tank, flooding the basement. It was an address mistake. Young and her son are staying in a hotel while the oil company pays for a cleanup. Young has been trying to sell the house, which may be difficult now. Link -via Arbroath
