I read this article this morning. I have never read The Prince, but the parenting methods she "discovered" are commonsense things that parents have been handing down to children for centuries. Instead of buying them things, give them money ...and they will learn the value of money. Punish them when they break the rules. Duh. How did she never know these things before?

I was a teenager when Blazing Saddles came out in theaters. I loved it, just as I did all the other Mel Brooks films until Spaceballs. So did my friends, both male and female. It wasn't just the drugs, either, because I laughed just as much seeing them years later on TV.

Somewhere in the comments, someone said a girl will always say yes if a camera is rolling. That way, if the video goes viral, they aren't the "bad guy." But they might say no once the camera is off. On the one hand, it's a good thing that young folks are aware enough to act like everything they say and do may be recorded for the internet. On the other hand, it reminds me of 1984 or The Truman Show. Both the boy and the girl are put in a pretty tight spot.

The article didn't mention whether she applied anywhere but an Ivy League school. You ALWAYS apply to a "safe" school that you know you'll get in. My kids are a couple of years away from college, and they already know that extracurricular activities and charity work counts, as well as attitude. Did no one ever give this girl any advice?
