(Photos: US Army Europe/Ellis Arts)

In a recent Twitter exchange with a fan, William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk on Star Trek, hinted that he's a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

He even has a favorite pony:

Shatner pushed back against a bronyphobe who showed up:

Welcome to The Herd, Captain.

The Elevator Weatherman Prank

(Video Link)

Greg Benson of Mediocre Films pulls off a decidedly non-mediocre prank by acting like a classic weatherman giving his cheery report, all while inside a small elevator. He even has a weather map!

And he's just getting started. No morning news broadcast is complete with just the weather. Other reporters have to share their segments, too.

37 Famous Stories with Clickbait Titles

(Image: Jollyinthebox)

In the movie 127 Hours, a mountain climber amputates his own arm after getting it stuck in a boulder. That's cool, but not really applicable to most people's lives. So the marketing manager wants it punched up a bit. He wants clicks--lots of them. There are common word formulas for web ads to get precisely that.

For a Photoshop contest, Cracked readers retitled 37 famous stories, including novels and movies in order to boost web traffic. They include Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Ad Agency Looking for Interns Releases Terrifying "Fresh Meat" Recruiting Video

Mother wants fresh meat. Nay, she craves fresh meat. Will you feed her?

Mother is an ad agency in New York. "Fresh meat" is its in-house term for "interns." To encourage meat units to apply to its internship program, Mother produced this video expressing how much the agency hungers for interns. Do you qualify? The dark hooded narrator describes the qualifications:

It doesn't matter where you've been before.
We want you raw because we're hungry
Even if you've been on the floor. [...]

No want no day old meat.
No want no stinky feet.
No want to take no heat.
Just give us our fresh meat.

Male Beauty Standards from Around the World

What does it mean to be a handsome man? The answer will vary over time and from culture to culture. To satisfy your scholarly interest in the wholly academic study of body aesthetics, BuzzFeed conducted a sociological survey of current dominant male beauty standards in the USA, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, Nigeria, Turkey, Italy, the UK, India, South Korea, the Philippines, and Australia. It also speculated on future trends in male beauty preferences worldwide.

Readers with an interest in the social sciences may wish to conduct further research on their own. A literature review is the starting point of all serious scholarly study.

Don't You Weep! -- A Tissue Box Filled with Motivational Quotes

(Photos: Maus Hábitos)

Hugo Santos is a graduate student in communication design in Porto, Portugal. He wanted to get into a prestigious design fair, but his ideas were rejected, one after another. He felt saddened by this problem, which is what inspired him to develop a project which did get him into the design fair: Don't You Weep! It's a tissue box that opens to reveal messages which (hopefully) motivate the user to keep trying to overcome obstacles. Santos produced 15 of them, all of which sold at the fair.

Beer Barrel Motorcycle Sidecar

(Photo: BBC)

It's called The Beer Engine. The Hogs Back Brewery in Tongham, Surrey, UK commissioned this custom motorcycle. As you can see, the sidecar is a beer keg, spigot and all. The gear shift lever is a beer engine pull. The owners use the motorcycle to draw the attention of crowds at festivals and other public events.

This Is a Bladder Stone

(Photo: unknown)

Bladder stones are hard crystalized masses that form inside the bladder. This type is called a jackstone calculi because it's shaped like a toy jack. The abstract for an article in the Indian Journal of Urology desribes them:

They are almost always composed of calcium oxalate dihydrate consist of a dense central core and radiating spicules. They are usually light brown with dark patches and are usually described to occur in the urinary bladder and rarely in the upper urinary tract.

Do you think that there's one inside you right now?

Clever Mechanical Gate Opens Automatically without Electricity

You don’t need electricity with this simple but effective design. The weight of the car pushes the gate open. A cattle grid prevents animals from trying to escape the same way.

Hungry Hungry Hippos with Jeremy Clarkson Heads

(Photo: My Mini Factory)

Jeremy Clarkson is the host of Top Gear, a popular British television show about cars. He’s known for having a, shall we say, vigorous personality. The BBC recently suspended him from the show after he allegedly hit a producer.

At the time, news reports indicate, Clarkson was very hungry after a long day of filming. This is what made him irritable.

To mark the occasion, the staff at the 3D printer manufacturer CEL designed and printed Jeremy Clarkson heads that can be used with the classic children’s board game Hungry Hungry Hippos.

Chimpanzees See the Outside after Being Caged for 30 Years

(Video Link)

In 2011, the Gut Aiderbichl animal rescue organization in Austria rescued several chimpanzees which had been caged in an indoor laboratory for up to 30 years. Some, having been born there, had never seen the outside world.

Gut Aiderbichl prepared an open air environment for the chimpanzees, then moved them to a cage adjoining it. When it was ready, they opened a door between the two. The curious chimpanzees began to explore a bright new world. It’s not the wilderness to which they can never return, but it is a better life. You can follow their progress here.
