31 Pumpkin Recipes to Spice Up the Season

Looking for a little fall flavor? Well, now that it's the season for pumpkin-y goodness, you may as well enjoy the season while it's available. If you need some new ideas of what to do with your pumpkins, you should check out Closet Cooking's list of 31 pumpkin recipes.

While I've seen a lot of pumpkin recipe round ups, this one is particularly great in that it doesn't just feature desserts. This way, you can enjoy pumpkin appetizers, snacks, entrees, side dishes and desserts for a totally fall feast.

When An Eagle Takes Down A Deer

At one point or another, you've probably been to a buffet and took way more food than you could ever consume. But humans aren't the only ones who sometimes find that their eyes are bigger than their stomachs. That's precisely what this golden eagle found when he tried to scoop up a full-sized deer.

He may not have gotten far, but amazingly, he actually was able to take down the deer, as its carcass was discovered only a few yards away from where this picture was taken -half eaten by the eagle. Back in 2004, researchers found one that had taken down a brown bear cub, so this outrageous behavoir isn't unheard of.

The Iconic Footwear of Famous Fictional Characters

I'm not all that fashionable and I know some of you readers are the same. That being said, there are certainly some fashions that every geek recognizes without a second thought -like Marty McFly or Luke Skywalker. That's why these posters by Fredrico Mauro and Nicolas Bannister are so wonderfully brilliant.

Personally though, I love John McClane's footwear -or lack there of, because how else are you going to make fists with the toes?

Vote For the Best Monster In TV or Movies

Forget March Madness, the real fun is in the Monster Madness bracket over on Famous Monsters of Film Land and you don't even have to wait until spring to enjoy the fun. In fact, you can help nominate the top monsters and monster killers for the bracket on the site right now. After the seventh, be sure to return to see the official brackets and even see which monster (or hero though I suspect it will be a monster) wins.

Are They Really Snickerdoole Poppers Or Churro Bites?

Either way, these tasty sweets are super easy to make. Just a can of Grand's Biscuits, vanilla pudding, cinnamon sugar and oil. The basic concept involves just frying the dough, rolling them in the cinnamon sugar and then injected with tasty pudding. Impressively, one can of biscuits makes 32 bite-size treats. You can find the rest of the instructions over at Oh, Bite It!

Mommy's Little Dreamer Is Full of Imagination

What happens when a mom imagines all the fun adventures her son can have after he grows up? You get an absolutely adorable set of photos like the ones taken by new mother Amber Wheeler. The artist takes pictures of her baby on a white background and then photoshops in simple paint lines and other effects to create all kinds of elaborate scenes showing him as a ninja, rock star, riding a bike and more.

Narcolepsy Affects Kittens Too

(Video Link)

For many people, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo was the first time they ever heard of narcolepsy as it is a fairly rare condition. Nowadays though, most people have heard of narcolepsy, but you might not know that even little critters can suffer from it. This little kitty suffers from a sleep disorder and while it could be sad in certain circumstances, it's just plain cute in a safe situation like this.

25 Cool Alternatives to Carving Pumpkins

Tired of the plain old jack-o-lantern you carve every year? Well, you could grab some of our great Neatoshop pumpkin decorations or you can try to make something different with one of these 25 cool pumpkin ideas from A Subtle Revelry. If you're looking to cook your pumpkin after Halloween, many of these offer you great options that don't involve carving so it will stay fresh until you're ready to cook the meat.

I particularly like #25, the pumpkin turned into a flower base as it would make a great centerpiece or a great outdoor decoration depending on what flowers you put in it.

Pumpkin Lasagna For The Fall Win

For some people, pumpkin lattes are enough to satisfy that need for fall flavors, but for the rest of us, we need some actual pumpkin to make the most of the season. And, of course, it's a great option for your Halloween pumpkins if you don't carve them.

While there are hundreds of recipes out there for pumpkin sweets, this pumpkin lasagna is a totally unique and totally tasty option for a delicious main course with everyone's favorite fall flavor. You can find the recipe over at Cake Dutchess.

14 Costumes Only Children Can Pull Off

To be fair, I don't think that all of the 14 costumes in this Buzzfeed list really are only good on children, but there are certainly a few that would look mighty silly on an adult -like this Nintendo costume, or the gnome costume. Really though, there are plenty of great Marie Antoinettes, though the best ones are missing their head, which is something that wouldn't be quite right for a youngster.

Someone's Ready For Moving Day

I can hear the discussion now:

Hey honey, have you packed up the dishes? Yes.

What about the kid's toys? Of course.

The dog? Sure did.

Wait, why is he in bubble wrap? Well, you don't want him getting damaged during the move do you?

Personally, I think he doesn't need all that bubble wrap -packing him in a box with lots of popcorn would protect him just fine.

The image, from Imgur user Homewares reminds up how important it is to keep your pug safe during your move.

What Do You Want to See At A Convention?

If you're a regular reader, you probably know that we do a fair amount of convention and cosplay coverage here, usually from Comic Con and its sister convention, Wonder Con. This weekend, I'll be attending the new San Diego Comic Fest, which is only a few years old.

Since Comic Con is so giant and many San Diegians can't even get tickets these days, the new convention is billing itself as the "intimate" alternative. And this is my first year attending, so while I plan to go to the masked ball and should see some good costumes there, I don't know how much cosplay to expect. Assuming there isn't that much cosplay, or even if there is, what else would you folks like to see covered at this new, smallish convention?

And, of course, if you're in the area, stop by and maybe I'll even see you there!

Say Hello to the Lolita Avengers

For those unfamiliar with the many trends in Japan's harajuku fashions, lolita style involves rather doll-like clothing adorned with lots of frilly details and puffy petty coats. Need an example? Well, these four lolita Avengers are just as good a starting point as any other to understand the style. More importantly, they are wearing utterly adorable Avengers costumes that are a great gender-swapped take on the heroes.

Word Search Chalkboard Pumpkin

What does it take to turn a pumpkin into a word search? Nothing more than a little chalkboard paint, some white stickers and a few sticks of chalk. If you want to really help the scene, then a few wooden blocks, some glue and Scrabble tiles can help complete the theme. Find out all the fine details for completing this look over at Thistlewood Farms.

It's a great alternative to pumpkin carving if you don't like to deal with all the mess or the dangers of carving knives. On the downside, you'll need a good light on these if you want them to be visable to trick or treaters.
