As a Northern California (Sacramento) resident, my first thought on reading the story here was "Ummm...there is no way that San Francisco has faced 600 wildfires - perhaps the 'greater San Fransicso Bay Area', but even that would take a pretty generous definition. Then I clicked through to the actual NY Times article, which reads:
SAN FRANCISCO — Facing down 600 wildfires in the past three days alone, emergency workers rushed to evacuate tens of thousands of people in Southern California on Thursday..." (italics mine).
So...'San Fransicso' is part of the dateline, and the sentence that was mis-quoted refers to fires in Southern California.
The story itself is an interesting read, but Neatorama needs to do a much better job of actually reading the content of news stories before reposting them.

Anyone can "pray on the go" if they're so inclined -- traditional rosaries are far more lightweight and portable than this silly gadget. Of course, I'm not a believer in anything supernatural (although I was brought up Catholic) so even the beads are silly to me. But the fact that this is being pushed by the Vatican is particularly obnoxious -- "Here -- buy this unnecessary and overpriced thing so you can make one of the richest entities in the world richer . . . because we need more millions to pay off the victims of child rape by our priests, who we won't turn over to police for justice.

I don't always say please or thank you to my Alexa but I do always use a polite tone of voice -- but I think the Addams family modeled good behavior for these circumstances decades ago, by always kindly saying, "Thank you, Thing." If they could do that for a disembodied hand, I can do it for the glowing blue line that does so much for me!

Improving women's rights and educating men on 21st century attitudes and norms in Asian countries would go a long way toward improving birth rates. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/life/2015/10/03/lifestyle/women-japan-unite-examining-contemporary-state-feminism/#.XaC9PEZKhPY Being treated like an equal at both work and in the home, and having men shouldering half the house and child care would encourage more women to have more children.

PrEP use requires occasional testing to make sure kidney function is not being affected, so I'm unsure about providing it OTC. Regarding insurance, Truvada (PrEP) is impossible for most people to afford without insurance. What we need is medication cost reform, but that's for another post, I guess.

As a cost saving measure, it would be far cheaper to pay for these drugs than the costs of HIV infections. If you want to keep insurance premiums down, disease prevention is the best way to do it.
Same goes for birth control. Babies are expensive!
