I love the old mental_floss! Thank you for being a long-time reader, Sims! To answer your question: no, this isn't meant to replace Neatorama. But we are taking this opportunity to vet the new software that powers the Picto platform. It's faster and has lower server overhead, so it's promising. I see your point about the grid system. It is definitely very different from the traditional blog's two column layout. And as I mentioned above, we'll try to differentiate the look-and-feel of the new sites as we go! Thank you again for checking them out!
Thank you for being a long-time reader, absolin! And thank you for checking out the new sites :) I see your point about the Picto grid system looking like ads. The new sites actually don't have any ads at all at this time. We'll think of ways to differentiate the look-and-feel in the future, right now everything is pretty barebones design-wise so we can focus on getting the sites off the ground.
I agree with you falves. I hate online ads, but I also realize that we simply can't survive without them. The economics of online ads have also changed drastically over the years: it used to be that we could make ends meet with just banner ads. But as those ads decline in revenue, we finally had to give in and allow the more intrusive video ads. Sigh. In any case, you shouldn't see any ads at all if you browse the site while logged in - so that's one solution! Thank you again for reading Neatorama!
