True, the equation can be made more clear, but the crux of the problem here is that some people were taught that division takes precedence over multiplication. (i.e. BEDMAS instead of PEMDAS). That's why you have a huge swath of people (usually older vs. younger) arguing over the difference.
It's actually NOT obvious, because some people were taught PEMDAS, whereas others were taught BEDMAS. Which takes precedence? Division or Multiplication? It depends on when you go to school. That's why it's being discussed here.
